Q: Does this have a magnet?

No magnet--this is a sit-on-the-counter unit, about 3 x 4". We keep it the drawer. When using it, we put it out on the counter, or leave it in the drawer if we are nearby. Pretty loud, and it rings for 10-15 seconds.

Q: I have hearing loss and need a loud bell. Does it have a loud mechanical bell?

I do not hear well myself, and yes the bell is loud. Not as loud as the alarm on my cell phone at top volume, but loud enough to be heard.
