This screen fits a VST-203155 standard 20g basket perfectly. I was surprised at the noticeable improvement in the taste of the espresso when using this screen. It did not make a difference in extraction time, which surprised me. It does make big difference in keeping the shower screen and shower plate of my Profitec GO clean. The puck is non magnetic so there was a bit of a learning curve in removing the puck screen after pulling the shot without making a mess. But after a few tries, a couple of sharp slaps of the palm on the top of the portafilter followed by inversion and a light tap on the drip tray had the puck screen reliably and cleanly falling free of the puck which could then be knocked out normally. I cleaned the puck screen by rinsing with hot water under the faucet after each use. That seemed to be adequate because after 10 shots cleaning in this manner, I tried putting it under the steam wand in a cup of water, and the water came out clear and clean. So I'm very pleased.

I have enjoyed making espresso at home for years with significant investment in ECM, Profitec, Ceado, etc. The fun part for me is there are always products being introduced that take things to the next level. My 1st experience with a 58.5mm puck screen was with another brand sold through a well known NY retailer of everything coffee. I purchased most of my equipment through them over the years, but buy lots of accessories on Amazon. I was so pleased with the result that I bought three more Normcore screens with two of their round silicone base storage racks through Amazon. All are great quality and function perfectly. Why do you need these screens? In my opinion, the little extra time needed to add the puck screen after the tamp and cleaning the screen is absolutely worth it. Most importantly, you will be shocked how clean your E61 Group Head, shower screen, and portafilter end up after a pull. I could not believe it! Candidly, I do not notice better tasting coffee, reduced channeling, etc., but everything stays clean, clean, clean! Additionally, a Nanotec Precision Shower Screen and 8.5mm Blue Silicone E61 Group Head Gasket (both purchased on Amazon) were very low cost, high benefit part replacements on my ECM. Note: One of my new screens ended up being the wrong size (53.3mm) even though I ordered a 58.5mm screen. The sleeve containing the screen was marked wrong and Amazon immediately exchanged it for the correct size. Summary: Highly recommended...a no brainer.

I'm a pragmatist and wasn't sure I'd like to use a filter. Was it a gimmick to sell more stuff to coffee addicts? The tldr is I'm glad I got it. If you're not grinding your own coffee (or using a spice mill) and haven't invested in a scale or dosser, you probably need to address those issues before investing in a filter like this. This filter has helped make my coffee more consistently good because it allows for the coffee to be compacted more in the portafilter. This allows for the extraction to happen with higher pressure. The coffee is better tasting and there's more volume to the crema. The puck is drier and comes out easier than before. The time saved cleaning the portafilter can be spent rinsing out the filter if you want to, but it's generally clean after a pull because the water flows one direction. It's wet, sure, but clean. An additional benefit is that it keeps the coffee grounds from coming into contact with the head so I will have to clean the espresso machine less often (or rather, keep the coffee tasting good when I don't clean it as often as I should).

When I bought the normcore puck screen I was convinced after a few use that this would allow to keep the espresso machine cleaner as the coffee stay in the portafilter and do not go up the group head. It does not change the taste of the coffee and has only the advantage to keep the machine clean. The 4 stars review is because I bought at the same time a pack of 3 puck screen that were the same price as this one. I noticed no difference with the other no name puck screen and will in the future just buy the cheaper version.

Normcore 58.5mm Puck Screen : Yes, this puck screen works as intended. However....the devil is in the details. The screen itself is very well made, so the product is great. However, using it in a workflow is another matter. 1) IMHO...you need a stack of these if you are making multiple beverages in a row, as you need to thoroughly clean it after every use, which totally interrupts the workflow. 2) Picking it out of your messy knock box is not fun. It's very hot,( like finger burning hot), and messy, again interrupting workflow. 3) You need to clean it with HOT water so that it doesn't chill down the extraction when placed in the portafilter...just another step to do. I rest mine on the warming tray of my espresso machine so that it is hot and ready to go for the first cup. After that..ummm...it's a nuisance. Does it improve the taste? Honestly, I can't tell that it does. Does it help prevent channeling? Yes, probably. Does it keep the shower screen cleaner? Yes it does. Final thoughts: if you're doing one extraction, it's probably a fine addition to your process. (I grind, use the WDT tool, leveler tool, then tamp). For back to back cups, unless you want to stop and burn your fingers and then clean it between cups, it's probably not worth the hassle. You definitely would need a stack of them and then do clean up when you are done.

What a great product. The difference in my used pucks when I use this and when I do not is remarkable. They are tighter, more compact 100% soaked through evenly and I’ve never ever had any channeling. I’m using this with a rancilio rocky and a gaggia classic eco pro at home. And at my work we have a rancilio Silvia and a rancilio md40 grinder. Dame results at both places. Biggest bonus is how clean the group head stays. These are one of the best things you can buy if you’re making espresso. Period.

Great value and quality

Finally bought one of these after going back and forth about it being necessary. I will say that it does seem to prevent channeling after pulling a couple shots! If you use a bottomless portafilter I can definitely see this being an upgrade as it can definitely help with and espresso squirting out randomly during a pull. I saw one user mention that it can make the workflow a bit more tedious if you’re pulling shots back to back and I definitely agree with that sentiment as it’s one more thing to clean between shots. I can see myself buying one or two more just because this. I wouldn’t really worry about preheating it as some users may have said just due to it likely heating up pretty quickly while pulling a shot. Overall I’d say yes, give it a try!
