Excellent quality henna, however, the included instructions were for indigo preparation. Thankfully, I am already well-versed in henna application so in case anyone is confused, this is the preparation and application method I used to get amazing results (I am VERY happy): 1) Henna needs something acidic to “unlock” the colouring compound. I mixed in amla powder, which will cool down the orange tone and make it a little browner, more ashen. If you want the orange tone to be brighter, you can use lemon juice or hibiscus powder. Add an extra 20% of whatever acid you choose. 2) I mixed the henna and amla powder together in a bowl and added enough warm (not boiling) distilled water to create a pasty, mud-like consistency (like yogurt). Stir stir stir! 3) Place the mixture in an airtight container (or use cling wrap to seal the bowl) and leave at room temperature for 8-12 hours (try not to exceed 12 or the colouring compound will start to degrade). You will notice the henna on top will be darker than the layer below, almost like a film. If you see that, your henna is ready to apply! 4) Wash your hair as henna needs a clean surface. Either dry hair or damp is fine, just not wet. Slather the paste on generously, give your scalp and hair a mud bath lol. Get ready for henna to get on your face, on your top, on the counters, on the floor; plan accordingly. I keep a washcloth nearby to mop up after myself and wipe down my ears and hairline every once in a while. Wear gloves, obviously. Unless you want orange hands? 5) When your hair is covered root to tip, put on a shower cap or cover your head in cling wrap so the henna stays wet. Sit and contemplate your life for the next 4 hours. If you have leftover henna paste, you can freeze it! (In an airtight container. Obviously.) 6) Wash it all off with water only, no shampoo. If the henna is gritty or clinging to your hair, you can use conditioner to help get it out. No shampoo, man. No shampoo. Rinse until the water runs clear. 7) Blowdry your hair for 10-15 mins as heat helps activate the colour further. 8) Don’t wash your hair for the next 48 hours so the colour develops further. No shampoo, man. No shampoo. 9) Be your best self. This henna rocks and is great quality. I recommend!
