~People From My Neighborhood~A neighborhood is nothing without the people who live there. Quite often we find ourselves thinking of them. While some neighbors are oh-so-sweet and always ready to help, some are intimidating. Some like to keep to themselves and others are nosy beyond imagination. However, people of this neighborhood are different. Bizarre, uncanny, weird, I can't exactly put the right word but these people are unique. All of their tales are different, yet they all meet at tangents to each other.The stories are hardly 2-3 pages long, so I read through quickly. I enjoyed every bit of them, trying to decipher hidden meanings and expressions. And to be honest, some of them completely went over my head.I love Kawakami's works. I have read The Ten Loves of Mr. Nishino and it was quite lyrical. But that was a different genre. Which is why, this one caught me off guard.People From My Neighborhood is a small token of the people we live with, people who are always around and people we sometimes find bizarre. With these mind bending stories infused with magical realism, Kawakami paints a neighborhood unlike any other.
