How much kitchen compost does the tower handle? i juice everyday and have a lot of compost.

Accepted Answer

From spring through autumn the garden tower 2 can eat a lot of veggie scraps.  For higher performance, start with a full lb (about 1000) composting worms and do a little reading on how to feed a vermicompost systems online.  So long as your daytime temperatures are still hitting 50 degrees on average, the worms will thrive and consume a surprising amount of compostable scraps every day.  You can shelter them over the winter in a cool moist location or actually use them in a home-made bin if you have the space.  Depending on where you live, you may be able to keep your worms in the tower year round, or just replace them in the spring.  I would suggest you can add up to 1/2 gallon of cut vegetable scraps a day once the compost column is really thriving.

Would it be possible to move it inside over winter?

Absolutely, we bought a couple of L. E. D.  shop lights from the Building Centre... About $110 and mounted them vertically on plywood strips with a wood base.  This winter we enjoyed fresh lettuce, kale, parsley, basil and carrots all wwinter. It has been great! We are located on the Canadian prairies and had the lights on about 16 hours  a day. It ran us about 10 cents a day in power because of the efficient led tubes..

This thing looks like just what we need, would someone please be so kind to share with us the approximate shipping dimensions?

50-plant model stands 43" tall, is 26" wide and holds 8 cubic feet of potting soil!  I assume that is the latest model. I would think if you contact the place you have seen it displayed would let you know about shipping info.I am in a power chair and am so thrilled to be able to get my hands in dirt again. My chair rises enough that I can reach the top, though not easily. I have had  wonderful artichokes, chard, several lettuces, spinach,basil, mint, kale, also a few pretty flowers. We put in the red wiggler worms in the center tube and feed them our food scraps, along with wet egg cartons and cut up news paper. they crawl into the dirt surrounding them in the planter and fertilize it. I wish I coulod help more Freeman, but that's as much as I can do. I hope you can purchase one. Do be fure it will get plenty of sunshine. One side of mine gets less, but is doing well. when it gets too cold outside, can you move it inside with grow lights? Does the watering leave a mess underneath?

Not sure about the grow lights, but it's heavy once you get it filled.  There's a bucket to catch the compost tea that you can recycle back into the tower.
