Like the other Ling and Ting books, my kid and I enjoy a lot of the stories in this collection! The story where Ling and Ting go looking for a rainbow together and eventually find a double one is a favorite for both of us.My preschooler can't fully follow the humor in several of the stories in this volume yet (which I'm guessing means that the humor will hit a lot of kindergarteners just right).I did hesitate slightly over the amusing episode where Ting is pretending to be sick to get out of shoveling the snow. Ling cooks up a disgusting mixture that she calls "old Chinese medicine", and Ting promptly claims she doesn't need to drink it because she's feeling all better now and is ready to shovel. My kid doesn't yet fully understand that Ting is faking, which makes the rest of the story harder to follow, so maybe this wouldn't be a concern with an older kid; but I do think it would be possible for "old Chinese medicine" to reinforce a "foreigners eat weird, gross things" stereotype, if a reader didn't pick up on the much more subtle humor and genuine cleverness that is in play for this story. To be clear, I do think that this book would still be a great addition to any easy-reader collection! (There's a reason I'm still giving the book 5 stars.) But specifically for households or schools using this as a "window" book, I think it'd be a good idea for adults to be prepared to follow up and clarify if necessary.

It's more of a bunch of rhymes than stories.
