Mouse Soup: An Early Reading Bedtime Book for Kids (Ages 4–8)

My son is in 2nd grade and struggles with reading. This book and Mouse Tales are his favorite books to read. They are easy enough for him to get through with little help from us (large font and relatively simple words) but are still engaging stories. We talk about what he has read afterwards, and there are lots of details for him to recall. He also loves the preposterous nature of some of the stories, which he finds hilarious. Most books at this reading level are pretty boring, but these books are wonderful, and make my son actually want to read, which is the greatest sign of success.

Thought this book was a fever dream yet here it is - totally real. Brought me back to my childhood, in a good way. Book arrived on time and in the condition listed [bought 2 and one was used - couldn’t remember if this was the used one or not either way both were received well]

I get frustrated by "Early Reader" books that are full of words my early reader has never seen and cannot sound out. This is not one of those books (nor are any of Arnold Lobel's books for that matter). I worried in vain that my Star Wars, Angry Birds, Lego loving boy would be bored, but of his own free will he sat down and read the first couple of stories. Laughing, he had to tell us about the silly bees who didn't like the mouse's "bed." The next day he went back and finished the book. He was so proud of himself. What a confidence booster! I highly recommend for all new readers.

This wonderful book was one of my daughter's favorites when she was little. We had to get a copy for her children who we hope will enjoy it just as much.

This was one of the first books I ever read all the way through all by myself when I was a little girl. I was so proud of myself! Its such a cute little story and a very easy read for little ones just learning to read on their own! I ordered this for my 4 year old so we can read it together at night.

This book brings me back to my childhood days. It’s an easy reader for kids in pre k to 1st grade. I use it as a bedtime read along with my five year old daughter. I enjoy this book as a child and I am glad to be able to share it with her.

My 3 year-old absolutely loves this book! It’s the right balance of words and pictures. A must-have classic for your Arnold Lobel collection.

二つ岩の物語が面白かった。 丘の斜面の野花が咲いている素敵な場所に座っている二つの岩が反対斜面はどのようなところか知りたくなり動くことができる鳥さんに見て来てほしいとお願いした。 戻ってきた鳥さんは反対斜面は城が建っている素敵な街ですと答えた。 それを聞いた二つの岩は落ち込んだ。 100年経ち今度はネズミさんに反対斜面はどのようなところか見て来て欲しいとお願いする。 戻ってきたネズミさんは反対斜面はこの場所と同じように野花が咲いた素敵な場所でした伝えた。 二つの岩さんはそれを聞いて安心し喜んだ。そして、鳥さんが嘘を付いていた事に気付く。 この物語は、目に見えないものを自分の勝手な想像で作り上げ、それに囚われて悲しむことの無意味さを教えてくれたように思いました。

Boy, do you get a bang for your buck with this book. Lots of story, lots of pages and very engaging. It's awesome for a child learning to read. I love the illustrations too. You can't go wrong with this book, and it looks exactly like the picture.

Loved reading this to our children 30-odd years ago and glad that it is still available for our grandchildren. The four Mouse Soup stories, Bees and the Mud, Two Large Stones, The Crickets and The Thorn Bush, have a typical Arnold Lobel whackiness that appeals to children and adults alike. A classic.
