Fueling the "Mighty Huntress" Instinct
I have been purchasing these SmartyKat Chickadee Chirp toys since 2020, and they have become a staple in our household for a very specific reason: they turn my 14-year-old indoor cats into triumphant house panthers. There is nothing quite like a design that triggers a catโs natural predator instincts so effectively. My girls will hunt these down and then strut into the room with their "prey," emitting cries of victory around the bird before dropping it at my feet for a well-deserved "good job." Even at their age, reinforcing those hunting instincts is vital for their mental health, and this toy makes them feel truly mighty. The quality of the plush itself is durable and handles being carried around and "captured" daily. The sound quality is surprisingly realisticโa soft, bird-like chirp rather than a harsh electronic beepโwhich is the main draw for my cats. I actually just pulled this specific one out of a drawer where it had been tucked away as a backup since a 2020 order; I was incredibly impressed that even after sitting for several years, the battery life was still there and it chirped the second I pulled the tab! While the chirp feature does eventually "retire" after a few dozen heavy hunts, the fact that the battery held its charge in storage for so long is a huge win.Even when the sound eventually stops, the value for the money remains high for us. The cats still love the hunt, the feel of the toy, and the catnip inside. As a funny side note, the dog love for these is real, too! Our dogs are always very curious about the "prey" the cats bring in, and because the toy is soft and small, itโs often the one cat toy the dogs try to gently sneak away with. Itโs a simple, affordable joy that Iโll keep buying as long as my girls keep "hunting."

Not annoying.
Some cat toys can be too loud or never shuts up. This is just enough to get their attention and play with. They will bat it or sometimes chase it as it does roll around when thrown. Its soft and made well, does not fall apart. Good job!

Great for kittens and young cats
This toy is really cute and the sounds are not overpowering or loud so they don't bother me even when my kitten wakes up and plays in the middle of the night, but the little chirps definitely entice my kitten to play and comes running when it goes off. So far its held up very well to the bites and beating. My kitten really loves it, but is not picky. I was planning on getting another but when I bought mine it was $8 and the price has since raised to almost $12. For $8 I think it's cute and worth every penny, but I don't know if I would buy it again for $12. I keep it in my saved items though just in case the price decreases again. So far the battery still working, but its only been about 2 months. My older cat doesn't bother with it, but my older cat doesn't bother any toys too often.

chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp
First and foremost my cats LOVE this thing. The good:They love this thing. It chirps and is noisy and they attack it relentlessly. Its totally cute. They get lots of exercise chasing it around. They play with it all the time. I bought it for them for Christmas so this is my 3 month review. The first day was awesome. chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp constantly as they gang chased this thing around the house. I thought I had scored the big score with my cats until:The bad:They love this thing. It chirps and is noisy and they attack it relentlessly, I realized laying in bed at 2 AM listening to chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp that I have made a terrible mistake. My cats have ripped into this thing for 3 months. Annoyed me to no end with it. They absolutely are still in love with this thing. I cannot touch it, its disgusting and covered in drool, spit, slime, hair, floor gunk, and slobber. It make me shudder to touch it. Meanwhile the cats are still trying to kill it all the time and chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp. Did I mention chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp? Yeah it does this chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp thing.I would give this a 5 star review, because that is what the cats would give it. I would give it a 1 star review because chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp. So I will be fair and say it should be a 5 but I am giving it 4 because the person that invented this thing... did a great job... and ... someone should give him a good slap (in a non-malicious way).Did mention the cats love this thing?Did I mention chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp?Yeah... chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirpSincerely, chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp30 month edit:chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp

๐ฆ Frenchie Approved
My Frenchie is absolutely obsessed with these chirping toys. The realistic chirping sounds drive her wild in the best way. Same caution as with other plush toys โ she's crushed a few so watch for toy guts and plastic shards during playtime. Pro tip โ I cut the feathers off immediately for safety. We keep buying them because the joy on her face is worth it every time. Highly recommend for sound obsessed pups!

Chitter is too low
The chittering in this toy is so low that I have to thrown it to him or my baby totally ignoresit. He definitely doesn't have a hearing problem so I'm not sure if the "chitter" part is defectivein this toy or if it's supposed to be that way.

Older, not v playful cat LOVED
My older cat ~ 12 years old loved it fresh out of the box and has kept coming back to it over the next couple hours. Time will tell how well it holds up.

The cat's meow
My cat is obsessed with this toy. He played with it constantly for years and wore out the chirp sound. It took me forever to find this one online and even though it is ridiculously overpriced, it was worth it.

Intermittently enjoyed by my cat
My cat prefers to hide this toy in a large paper bag and, from time to time, pounce on it and get excited by the chattering noises it makes Occasionally she'll pick it up and give it a bit of a kicking. Not her favourite toy, but one that she enjoys from time to time.
