Really needs an updated version, but best that I have for now.
I have to agree with many of the other negative reviews here on this gooseneck mount, but I did get it to work for me and like it. It holds my huge Galaxy Note 4 in a case right where I need it, but I just have to say something about the downsides. The best use would definitely be a semi-permanent set up. Moving this from place to place or constant readjustment would drive me crazy. The base clamp requires a lot of force and the gooseneck does not move easily. All of these seem to be the same after searching through Amazon. Once you get to the top where you attach the phone you get fragile plastic. I would remove this before adjustment of the stiff gooseneck. I can definitely see the part around the ball joint breaking. You don't really need a ball joint at the end of a gooseneck and this one is the worst ball joint I've used. Also this thing is very unattractive for a semi-permanent mount. With all of these downsides, I managed to make it work for a car mount. I got the clamp onto a bar under my seat, managed to bend the gooseneck over in between the seat and the center console, then attached the plastic car clip. The ring used to tighten the clip onto the metal ball broke on me so I made a trip to the hardware store and bought a metal one. I like the look of just the gooseneck coming up from the seat and it's a perfect height. The phone clip could look better, but it is one of the few that will hold my phone. The clip I received looks different from the one in the picture. It makes contact with the phone in two spots. This product worked well for me in place of a cup holder, air vent, lighter, or suction cup mount though I can't imagine that many cars will have a place where this can be mounted and not look ugly. This is probably better for a nightstand or desk. Hopefully a newer version comes out that fixes the downsides, but until then I am happy to finally have a good place to hold my Note. I'd like to see a gooseneck that is easier to adjust, a clamp with a screw that would be sturdy without requiring so much force, and either a better quality ball joint or a swivel. Take some inspiration from much more attractive desk lamps, manufacturers.

Cell phone for one handed use
I purchased it for someone who is trying to use his phone one handed. It holds the phone in one place nice and steady for him.I like this device. It is strong and lightweight for a heavy duty metal clad gooseneck. It bends to where you want without a lot of effort and retains its shape well. The length of the gooseneck is ideal. The strength of the clasps is good too.Cell phones and speakers are do not cause it to sag or lose grip on the surface attached to.If I were to change anything at all I would have a silicone rubber pad on the clamp holding it to the table or cabinet door to prevent scratches if the surface is nice wood. On the other hand I can also make a case for not having the silicone pad for some of the surfaces it might clamp to.I am happy with the product I received. I am considering purchasing another for an alternate location in another room.

but it slides around too easily for such a well made gooseneck
I'm usually not one to chime in on products that I buy on Amazon, but this one is an exception. From the previous reviews I was looking forward to a cell phone holder that I could adjust that is somewhat rigid that can hold a cell phone in place in a car. The gooseneck itself is built very well. The clamp will hold, but it slides around too easily for such a well made gooseneck. If the clamp were a bit tighter or had more compression it would be better. Secondly, and the primary reason for writing this review is the cheap shorty construction you'd expect for a 15$ device holder. The ball that your cell clamp pivots on is metal= wonderful, however the receiving end with the PLASTIC nut and PLASTIC threads are so extremely cheaply made and very brittle. First the nut cracked while adjusting it. Thinking, no problem, I can replace it with a metal nut- just a mere nuisance. Then the threads- which are split into three sections, started to break off one at a time. Two of the three broke. I'm not terribally hard on stuff I buy but wow, the plastic is so extremely cheap and brittle. Now I have a useless 15$ in the hole cell phone holder with a extremely nice gooseneck.I would gladly pay twice for a all metal construction.

Chromo FlexHold is Excellent and Recommended Highly
Excellent for mounting my webcams which I use as part of my home security system. The mounting clamp is perfect as it has a very high tension spring which strongly closes the clamp and that keeps the unit stable for adjusting the other clamp; and the mounting clamp is attached to a window crank-assembly that is approximately 3/4" thick and this clamp opens wider. The second clamp is plastic and lightweight, but exactly what is needed to hold a delicate piece of equipment such as a smartphone (which it is designed for) or a webcam as I have adapted it for. When I say lightweight I do not mean flimsy as the clamp is rated to easily hold a smartphone safely for hands free use. The spring is firm but not too strong as to add pressure to a plastic case and is padded (felt?) where the jaws would hold a smartphone case sides. This clamp-jaw opens wide enough to easily accept a smartphone and its approximate 3/4" width holds my webcam securely. The goose neck is very stiff which aids in positioning the mount clamp and/or equipment clamp properly.

Heavy duty
This is a seriously heavy duty product. Probably a little TOO heavy duty for what I wanted and will probably end up buying something else to hold my ipod in the car, but I have already modified this with some Sugru to hold my Nook HD+ in the kitchen when I'm using it as a cookbook. Works extremely well for that. Holds it securely and gets it up off the countertops so I don't spill anything on it.If you are looking for something to hold an ipod or cell phone in a car, you might want to re-think this product. The gooseneck is quite long and hard to manipulate. The clamps though, are very good and strong and have non-slip pads so they stay where you put them.
