Nice shape and nice light, just hard to get it to work ???
I can seriously recommend these bulbs; however please read below, especially if you've never fitted this type of bulb before:My old bulb blew, and in fact to say it exploded would not be an understatement. the ends of the old bulb had shattered inside the bulb holder leaving shards of plastic everywhere insideI removed the old bulb along with all the shattered plastic I found, and inserted one of the new bulbs, flipped the switch and nothing came up at all. As it was a four pack (they come in the same 'bubble' - they are not individually wrapped) I decided I was going to double check the new bulb, and if it was faulty try a second bulb.I removed the new bulb, double checked the filament looked good (it did) and I also heard some rattling so shook the lamp and removed the additional plastic from the old bulb. I then refitted the new bulb, taking care that the electrical contacts were connected. The protective cover over the bulb was re-secured, switched it on and it worked. I do love the colour of the light it gives off, plus that physical heat...I can't say why this new bulb didn't work the first time, however there is a few things I want to advise on:1: The bulbs were posted through my letterbox. there was no fragile or glass warnings so I did think at first maybe hitting the floor had damaged the bulbs. Not relevant directly to the product, just wanted to highlight this, and also say it's a testament to the bulb that the filament wasn't damaged and worked as prescribed at my second attempt at installing.2: I cannot say why my old bulb 'went' the way it did. This is the first time I've used this particular type so maybe it's normal for the plastic to blow like that? I didn't hear it shatter, it just wouldn't switch on. Again, this *is not* related to the new bulbs, it was one already fitted when I was gifted the lamp. I just wanted to point it out just in case it is "normal"3: the contacts are physically minimal! they are about the same size (maybe smaller) than a headphone jack on a phone. because my lamp is spring-loaded for the bulb socket it's possible I didn't get the ends aligned properly, causing the failure to light up the first time.4: Because they are halogen, I used tissues wrapped around the bulb when I went to insert it, and removed them afterwards. I know if you use your bare fingers you get your body grease on the bulbs, and I also know for some bulbs the grease super-heats and causes the bulb to fail immediately. I can't say if this would happen with these bulbs, but it's a basic precaution I wanted to take just in case...overall highly recommended, I just wish they hadn't been dropped through the letterbox and I hope they don't go the same way as the bulb I just removed.

I yearn for the day when LEDs represent an adequate replacement for linear halogen
I possess a beautiful Italian floor lamp designed (like much beautiful Italian homeware) with little thought for practicalities. The lamp is a Foscarini classic and will keep it forever. However the 300W linear halogen bulbs run so hot that they can fry passing insects like a tractor beam. The lack of energy efficiency harks to a bygone era when there was no need to give such things any more than passing consideration. My choice of Comyan bulbs is no doubt a false economy as they seem to blow every couple of weeks to the point where I feel like I'm single-handedly supporting Comyan's P&L account. But, come to think of it, there was perhaps never a time, even in the days when I stuck religiously to expensive OEM bulbs, when this was not an issue. The problem really lies in the design: to function properly, these sort of bulbs must be squeezed into a ludicrously tight, spring-loaded fitting whilst never being touched by sweaty human fingers. Salt from the sweat allegedly reduces the life of the bulb even further. I mean, wtaf? I suspect the whole thing is a myth created to disguise built-in product failure
