Insight Guides Philippines Paperback – March 1, 2013

I've been using Insite guides for 25+ years - they are my favourite!!! :) I'm looking at my book cabinet and have Insite guides for Egypt, Ireland, Turkey, Nepal, Spain, China and now Philippines. The history, politics, amazing pictures and information help you understand where you are going, what people believe and what is important to them. There is a language section too. I find if you can say "hello, "thank you" and "goodbye in their language people love it. The section in the back help you find great places to eat and stay and the price range. The only criticism I have is I wish it was lighter and more compact or if there was a pull out guide for day trips.

This is a great book to use to prepare for your trip to the Philippines (or, if you simply want to learn about the country). It's extremely well-written, well-organized, and has beautiful maps and photos throughout.However, if you're looking for your take-along travel guide, this may not be the best choice, because a) it's pretty large and heavy, and b) there isn't a ton of detailed information about getting around, dining, lodging, contact info, etc.Now, in Insight's defense, the other three travel books I've read that do try to include that detailed info seem to lose their accuracy within a week or two of printing -- that's just the nature of countries like the Philippines, where everything's always in flux. And of those three, two were so poorly written and organized, they were virtually useless.The one I do like is Lonely Planet's 2012 edition. My recommendation: Get this Insight book *and* Lonely Planet. Read this one before you go, then take Lonely Planet with you and read it on the airplane.

This guide provided me with several places to visit. The background on the history was useful in understanding the culture

Great Pics

This book give more insight and stories about Philippines. Actually not the tool to planning your trip with hotels&accomondation.However, this book is better to read from first to last pages.

Las imágenes en la guía son muy bonitas y está bien escrito, es interesante la introducción a la historia y cultura filipinas, pero el libro no ofrece casi información práctica, muy útil para un turista. Le falta mencionar muchos lugares interesantes e imprescindibles para visitar pero tiene información sobre algunos sitios que no vale la pena visitar, al menos sobra tiempo y no hay nada que hacer. Ademas ese libro pesa mucho y al final lo dejábamos en el hotel para no cargar más peso.

This book is packed full of really interesting info on the Philippines and beautiful, top quality page pictures. It is going to make an amazing birthday present. Only downside is my measurements were wrong and I expected the book to be slightly bigger, but nether the less it is a book filled with facts and handy info for travelling to the country. Very happy with it :))

This is a really useful guide with excellent colour photos. We also got the Kindle version but prefer the book version
