Dont be mislead this product is absolutely amazing.
I have used this product daily for almost a year now and I can tell you that Zojirushi quality is still top notch and I would HIGHLY recommend this product without a doubt. I've always had trouble staying hydrated and with this right next to my room I have consistently drank the daily recommendation of water with ease which is great for my health. There are many reviews talking about issues that are simply due to user error. The most popular review says the product plastic was bubbling. This is because they forgot to take off the protective film and you can even see the film in the pictures. When you receive the product you need to remove both the protective film on the top panel and also where you can see the water level indicator. As you can see from my photo, from daily abuse, the panel still looks brand spanking new. With that said, I also have no issues with rusting whatsoever and I run this under water every other week to clean it. Just use common sense and maintain your products properly and there will never be an issue. If you just leave the water boiler in the corner and not care for it for months on end, it will obviously fail you just like any other product.I bought this for 130$ during holiday discounts, I would highly recommend it even at its current price.

Amazing product with huge capacity
This water boiler is amazing. It's Made in Japan. A few specific thoughts:* I came from an ancient 3L Zojirushi water boiler (without any English on it), and so I'm coming from the perspective of someone who finds value in a water boiler of this type versus a kettle that needs to be boiled on demand* This is more than a suitable replacement for the old 3L. It's nice to have a soft (and actually working) gasket that you have to exert some force on to close the lid. One interesting difference vs the old one is that the new magnetic power cable is "polar" in that it can only insert one way, but there are plastic guides that make it easy to do so (I believe the old ones could be flipped 180 degrees).* I was initially apprehensive about 4L being too much/too big, but it's not a problem with average height counter/cabinets. The additional capacity also feels quite nice* The "slow" mode (press unlock twice) is great. It's slow enough that there's no splash back when making instant coffee. This was always a problem with my old one, as it would leave coffee splatters on the bottom of the spout. It's possible that the old one also had this capability, but I did not have an instruction manual for it, let alone one in English* The sides of this get warm, but not hot. It's not a dealbreaker for me

Terrible Taste From Bad Part, Otherwise Great Boiler!
We purchased this boiler in September of 2019, and I’m writing this review now, in July 2021. We’ve owned several of these from Zojirushi, and they’ve always lasted for a long time with great functionality. However, recently, the water coming from this particular unit has a terrible taste, somewhat tasting like plastic or chemicals. We always use filtered water and know that the water itself is not the source of the problem, and we always clean the unit regularly according to the manufacturers directions (citric acid on cleaning cycle). So I called the company’s customer service number to see how they could help. They said that the source of the problem must be a component inside the lid (we can’t see any degradation on the lid). They said there is nothing inside the water tank itself that could cause the problem, but that something from the lid could be it. They said that they could sell us a replacement lid for $30 plus shipping and tax. I complained that this unit is less than two years old and that it shouldn’t have a faulty lid so soon. She said then that “as a one time courtesy” they could sell us a lid for $18 plus tax, shipping included. We bought it and await the new one. But really, Zojirushi? If this model has a faulty lid after less than two years, why wouldn’t you replace the lid for free? And why did they lower the price from $30 to $18 during the conversation? Seems like they don’t really want to stand behind their products the way we thought they would. We own their rice cooker and coffee maker, but I’m thinking we should seriously consider other brands in the future. Oh, also, she said that this model of water boiler is no longer made by Zojirushi, but that Amazon and other sellers might still be selling it. Be warned!

A must-have for your kitchen
If your household frequently makes a lot of tea or coffee this is a much more efficient option than constantly having to heat water on the stove or in the microwave. We had one of these for a long time and finally decided to replace it with a new one,. I bought this same brand (Zojirushi) and it is great, just like before.

Will this one last 12 years??!
12 years ago while living in Japan I bought one of these water boiling/kettles. It was expensive at the time but it lasted 12 years and survived 2 international moves. The heating element finally gave out. I bought this new one. I wanted the version that was made in Japan still as I think they’re better quality (base models from this company are now made in China). Overall this works terrific. It doesn’t have a song to tell you when it’s finished boiling which is a little sad as it was a useful feature and this model isn’t one of the vacuum sealed versions so the exterior gets warmer than my old one which means it’s probably less energy efficient. The outside is definitely warm to the tough but not hot, it’s safe to touch.

It's almost perfect (Quick Boil needs a way to be default)
If the delay timer went to 14 hours instead of only 10, and the Quick Boil setting could be somehow set to the default, I would have zero complaints. Having to reset the Quick Boil so it just reaches 195 vs actually boiling every night when I put it into sleep is annoying.Had to boil a few pots worth of water and dump them initially due to bad taste, but now it's great. The convenience is wonderful and I think we're actually using less power than microwaving water. It will be nice to take with us on ski trips and etc... once that happens again ;)

Great Product so far, with minor issues.
The product very well so far (have had it only one month).Water heats up quickly and product holds its temperature well.Biggest issue is the short electrical cord so placingthe container islimited, and the cord is held in the unit by a magnet system(?), so it unplugs VERY easily

Good Buy
Bought this for someone who is unable to pour a kettle and am pleased. Arrived quickly, packaged well and undamaged. Works reliably and has been running almost non-stop for two months. Cleaning cycle is easy to run and effective with the additional purchase of the company's Citric Acid packages. This model does not have the "Zojirushi jingle" so it's quiet. (2021 update: still going strong!)
