Wonderful recorder. Looks like the recorder that the music teacher had available for purchase at the beginning of the year. I needed to purchase a replacement. Plays well. Great for kids that are learning to play.

My son loves it. Minus one star because he only knows one song and plays it nonstop. Just kidding. It was a great value and my only reason for rating 4 is there seems to be some pitchieness that can’t be overcome on certain notes. Maybe user error but have tried some different techniques without success.

I played sax for from elementary school through late college. I was a decent, albeit nothing special, musician. I do have experience with instruments and specifically, woodwinds. This recorder is not a Selmer. However, especially for the price, it is a solid little instrument. My 6 year old daughter really wanted to learn an instrument, any instrument, and my wife got her a super cheap recorder-like instrument at the dollar store. That was horrible but just a dollar. This cost 6 times more but is easily 25 times better. It is 'just a recorder' but it is a real instrument, a type of flute, has a real history, and there is technique to the thing that could make one skilled at this instrument or similar woodwinds in the future (e.g., sax, clarinet, flute). Also a lot easier for my kid to take around and practice on, still learn how to read music, and accommodates her hand size better than a bigger instrument like a piano. In addition to playing, we're having some good together time, and she's learning some rhythm and how to read music. This thing fits my daughter's hands well, and she has taken to it and even diligently practices it. She is already picking up a few songs and could play a song after our first 'lesson'. It even sounds better than I was expected. Sure, a plastic soprano recorder isn't that far off from a shrill whistle with holes, especially if you just blow on the thing. But being gentle with your breath, proper technique with your tongue (I know how that sounds), and it doesn't sound that bad. The youtube recorder lesson number 1 by Mr. Hines covers this. It isn't hard. I haven't played sax in years but have been enjoying picking this up with my kid. Very pleased, especially for the price. Note that the recorder pulls apart into three pieces for cleaning (but has no rod but not a big deal). It comes in a little cloth sack of decent quality which is sufficient to establish a habit of treating an instrument with respect and putting it away when done...but isn't a hard or soft case in any sense. This said, this thing seems pretty durable. I wouldn't use it as a hammer, but occassional drops or piling stuff on top of it isn't going to damage it. Well done.

Best recorder on the market for the value. Hard to beat Yamaha in hardly anything. I bought this for my 5yo to tinker with. She loves it!

Die Yamaha- Blockflöte YRS 23 ist eine sehr schönes und gelungenes Instrument. Eigentlich mag ich Instrumente lieber, wenn sie nicht aus Kunststoff sind oder welchen enthalten. Aber bei dieser Flöte handelt es sich ja nicht um einen "Wegwerfgegenstand", sondern um ein wirklich dauerhaftes Produkt. Es gibt in meiner Familie ein ähnliches Instrument, welches schon fast 40 Jahre alt ist. Der Kunststoff hat sich in keiner Weise verändert und die Blockflöte spielt sich wie am ersten Tag. Eine Holz- Blockflöte kann u.U. schneller "ableben" Gute Holz- Flöten hören sich selbstredend etwas besser an. Sonst würde sie ja niemand kaufen. Sie haben aber auch Nachteile. Zum Beispiel müssen sie zuerst ein- und danach immer warmgespielt werden. Erst dann (meistens dann) spielen sie ihre Vorteile wirklich hörbar und auch angenehm aus. Für den Anfänger ist eine Kunststoffblockflöte, meines Erachtens, die erste Wahl. Die YRS 23 hat einen sauberen und relativ sanften Klang. Sie ist wirklich kein Kinderspielzeug, auch wenn sie einen rauen Umgang, sicherlich nicht sehr "übel nehmen" würde. Sie ist sehr sauber verarbeitet und eignet sich für Jung und Alt gleichermaßen. Sie eignet sich nicht nur für den Anfänger, auch fortgeschrittene Spieler haben (zumindest als Zweitinstrument....fürs Zeltlager, die Jugendfreizeit oder später den Urlaub) gewiss ihren Spaß damit. Diese Flöte kann man auch mal aus der Hand geben, ohne befürchten zu müssen, dass etwas kaputt geht. Wer beim Spielen dauerhaft bleibt, wird sich ohnehin irgendwann eine hölzerne Blockflöte zulegen. Wo ich gerade bei "später" bin, man sollte sich zu den Griffweisen erkundigen. Es gibt die deutsche Griffweise und die barocke. Die meisten professionellen Instrumente werden mit der Barocken hergestellt. Hier wäre ein späteres Umlernen notwendig, welches aber vielen Spielern nicht schwer fällt. Im Gegenzug ist die Deutsche etwas leichter zu erlernen. Sollte eine Musikschule angestrebt werden, ist es sinnvoll, dort vorher zu fragen. Diese Gewissensfragen sollte man sich vor einem Kauf stellen. Wer zuhause autodidaktisch das Spielen erlernen möchte, sollte sich jedoch die gleiche Frage stellen. Yamaha hat zu den "barock gegriffenen" Flöten ebenso gute Angebote, welche im Preis-/ Leistungsverhältnis nicht nachstehen. Ergo: Wer die etwas leichtere Spielweise bevorzugt, wer die wenig hörbaren Unterschiede zur "Barocken" nicht fürchtet (die gibt es nämlich), wer keine Angst hat, ggf. etwas umlernen zu müssen.....sofern er irgendwann, in ferner Zukunft doch noch spielen sollte und sich eine sehr teure Flöte zulegen will (es gibt auch Gute in "deutscher Spielweise"),der braucht gewiss keine Angst vor einem Kauf zu haben. Das Instrument hat ein perfektes Preis-/ Leistungsverhältnis, hört sich gut an und lässt sich gut spielen. Klare Empfehlung !!!

Pour le collège, ma fille avait besoin d'une flûte, et nous souhaitions une vraie flûte avec des notes justes, pas un jouet multicolore qui sonne faux. Cette flûte est parfaite, je la recommande vivement !
