As someone who spends a lot of time experimenting with different materials and techniques for both personal projects and professional exploration, I’ve used a lot of watercolor papers over the years, and Canson XL Watercolor Paper (7x10 inches, 140 lb) is a solid choice that consistently delivers. Canson watercolor paper is the paper I have used and stuck to since the beginning. I'd recommend Canson to anybody looking to start watercolor painting, and it is very easy to sketch on as well.

I do both graphite and water color pencils. The paper is thick. I can do graphite on the left side and water color on the right side. Perfect.

The paper is good quality and heavy weight. I plan to use it for acrylic painting tutorials. I deducted a star because it arrived with the edge slightly damaged which could be an issue depending on how it is used.

I love the canson XL watercolor paper. This is my 3rd purchase because of quality, price and I like the fact that the pages are perforated which makes it easy to take out or leave in with the spiral keeping my work together.

This is a very recent purchase. I bought this to use in the field or in my travels and I believe it will work well for my intended uses, as do the other Canson products I use. I’m not an artist and still trying to learn some basic watercolor techniques, so keep this in mind when reading this review. Also, I don’t have much time to devote to this yet, so tend to do things in a bit of a hurried manner (I hope to remedy this situation in the near future). I found this product allowed me some measure of control over the water and the paint. Its 140-lb. weight largely keep the paper from buckling - I still have much to learn. In the example I provided, I used the Kuretake Gansi Tambi watercolor paints (excellent, BTW) and found they worked very well (in my opinion) in my attempt to capture beautiful spring day on the Argentine Pampas. It tried to capture the Jacaranda and Ombu trees (the latter having an interesting trunk) which proved to be a challenge for me. The paper did its part, which is the key element here, I just need to improve my technique and abilities, especially capturing the shadow effects. I felt the paper had the water absorption capabilities I needed and worked almost as well as the Arches or Fabriano watercolor papers. At the end of the day, I believe this will work very well for its intended use.

This was the very first watercolour journal/paper I ever bought. If you're first starting out in watercolour, I think this is a pretty decent and forgiving journal to buy before you commit to other more expensive brands. As a beginner, it allowed me to practice techniques, tutorials and experiment freely at a fairly affordable price point. However, the textures between the front and back of each sheet seem to be different. The front side of each page is more textured while the back side feels smoother to the touch and is less absorbent, imo. I did not notice the difference until I started using the back pages and consistently disliked the way the paint looked.
