SC1 Schlage Compatible Keyway Rekey Kits Rekeying with Keys Set 4 Keys 5 Pins 8 Locks

Went into this cold without reading or watching a video first, just reading along with the Schlage manual which is linked in the kit's directions. How hard could a lock be, they have Youtube channels about JDs picking them? My pain is your gain. So: - Yes, the kit works as described, the locks work like new afterwards, and it's a great value. - It's pretty easy to figure out and use overall. The follower bar is a little cheap but it's not made to use on a daily basis. I had my second lock done in under 15 minutes total. - About that first lock... Nothing else matters during the rekeying process but USING THE FOLLOWER BAR CORRECTLY. So in the end, I saved myself $100 on the rekey but lost a few hairs putting the first cylinder housing back together (which is possible with the tools in this kit but I don't recommend it). So buy this kit, don't make my mistake, and you'll be golden.

They use standard height pins and not the custom-sized pins that other re-key kits use. Everything worked great. Was able to rekey and extra lock from the spare pins I collected from the locks being rekeyed. The ad only shows 3 bags but they actually sent 4 for the 5 pins. One sixed pin was used twice in the lock. EX: 74154 (The number 4)

This is overall a very good kit. Despite the photos showing only three bags of pins, it comes with five bags of eight pins. This will enable you to key a total of eight 5-pin Schlage cylinders to the included keys (four keys are included). If you have 6-pin Schlage cylinders, using this kit is possible, but doing so will require you to drop the #6 top pin and spring. This kit doesn't come with tools you may need to rekey specific Schlage locks, such as lever-type sets, or deadbolts. For lever-type sets, the Schlage pin gauge has an integrated pin that is used to release the lever to enable disassembly. I used a small Allen wrench to the same effect. For deadbolts, a Schlage cylinder cap removal tool makes things tons easier (also not included), but I was able to use a small offset pick to hold the spring-loaded retainer pin down and manually spin the cap off. Putting the cap back on is slightly easier since the knob shaft flange can be used to hold the pin down until the cap is fully screwed back on, then rotated to release the pin. Also conspicuously missing, tool-wise, is a C-clip removal tool. The included tool that looks like it may be able to be used as such is too narrow to push the clip off of the lock assembly. I used various tools from my tool kit to accomplish this. Instructions are sparse, but the included sheet links to Schlage's rekeying instruction set, as well as to a general "intro to locksmithing" YouTube video. The Schlage manual is particularly helpful. It is not immediately obvious that the hand-written 5-digit number on the label on the bag is the key code, but the included keys have the code stamped on them, which makes it very easy to identify which pins go in which cylinders. As other reviewers have observed, the included follower tool is very tight, but it worked as intended for me. The included keys seem particularly sturdy and to be of high quality. For the money, this kit is a great buy. Just be aware that this is by no means a complete kit, and that you'll need additional tools to rekey locks.

This rekeying kit for Schlage type locks works great! I got 4 bags of pins with the kit I received. You will receive as little as 3 bags of pins and as many as 5 bags depending on the key code you receive. You get 4 identical chrome coated keys stamped with the same key code. The plastic tool is made absolutely perfect. It fits snug but it's not too tight. The metal tool is too thick but 30 seconds with a file fixes that right up. I used this kit to rekey standard door knob and deadbolt locks as well as a Euro style lock on a storm door. The pins worked perfectly in every lock. I highly recommend, this kit is easy to use and the quality is great!!

This is a great rekey kit and having 4 keys worked best for everyone. One thing to note as seen from popular videos is that unlike the deadbolt where you turn the key 90 degrees and pull out the tumbler, for the twist handle push out the tumbler in the position that it is in. Else the top springs will fall out. This tumbler is not a complete cylinder as the deadbolt one.

This was a little difficult at first. Once you get the hang of it, it works well. We had to change the locks on our house every outside door. Instead of taking them to be rekeyed we decided to try this. It came with everything we needed keys included. It was worth the price , the time and safety. Thickness was a perfect fit. The only thing I would add is if you have shaky hands but need this find someone that can help you with stable hands.

The keys and pins were excellent! The clip tool did not fit, it was too thick to fit in the groove. The following tool notch does not fit Schlage Locks. The opposite end of following tool did work very well on the Schlage Deadbolts. Struggled a bit to complete 7 locks because of inferior following tool. Would of been a lot quicker and easier with properly made tool. Still a good price to rekey locks!

Rekeyed 5 locks for a great price. I am handy. Have installed and replaced knobs and deadbolts before, but never messed with rekeying a lock before. After a YouTube video found by searching on “rekeying Schlage deadbolt”, It took me 5 minutes each to change 4 deadbolts. Needed a Philips screwdriver and a small pointed tool to hold down the pin to disassemble the plug. The follower tool provided was the perfect size. Rekeying the knob was more of a challenge. The metal tool provided was too thick to remove the c-clip on the plug. I needed my daughter to lend a hand. I held one side of the clip and the plug and she used a screwdriver to pop off the clip. It does POP, so be sure it does not pop and get lost. The following tool provided does not fit on the end of the knob plug so I had to cut a notch in it with a file to use it to push out the plug on the knob. The plastic was soft and easy to cut the notch into, so it was not too bad. The tools did not match exactly for rekeying the knob but I still think It was worth five stars because it was so inexpensive and easy to use.
