Keep your lather warm throughout your entire shave using a scuttle. Flimsy metal bowls sold with shave kits don't hold heat well, and they're smooth on the inside, making it more difficult to build a lather. Fill the shave scuttle with hot water from your tap, and the hot water radiates the heat into the shaving bowl, keeping your lather warm.

Simply the Best!!!
In my opinion, this is the best design bowl for lathering that exists. It is ceramic, and barring breakage will last for generations. It has a large handle so that men with large hands and fingers have no problem with handling it. It is jacketed, meaning that there is space between the exterior and interior of the bowl that is filled with hot water from the faucet. This keeps the lather warm throughout your shave. I preheat the bowl by running hot water over the exterior and interior of the bowl and filling the reservoir with hot water, pour it out and refill the reservoir. Use the cork provided to hold the water in the reservoir as you move and handle the bowl during lathering. There is no canned lather or gel that I have tried that comes close to the quality of lather from the many shaving soaps and creams that are available. You just need a good brush and this lathering bowl to use. This bowl also has a tiered or ribbed interior that help to produce a thick rich lather quickly. There is a big difference in putting cold lather on your face versus the warm lather you get from use of this bowl. You have warm lather available later in your shave if you want to re-lather and shave troublesome spots (like my chin), or if you want to re-lather and do a finish shave by shaving against the grain. Even if you do not want to use a double edge razor (the closest shave you can get), and stick to use of cartridge razors, using a good shaving soap, a good brush and this bowl will give you a much better shave. A good brush and this bowl will last for years. The price of this bowl for the quality and design you get is very reasonable. When you take into consideration that it will last you the rest of your life and can be passed on the another generation, the cost becomes nil.

This scuttle works really nicely. I think it's a little bigger than it ...
This scuttle works really nicely. I think it's a little bigger than it looked in photos, and it feels pretty hefty (I'd say it feels solid, but Iiterally it's hollow). There's a bit of an adjusement period getting used to it because it lathers up more and more quickly. In other words, you need much less soap than you're used to, which in turn changes how much water you need. That's a good thing for sure, but it does take some trial an error to get it right. It's also rougher on your brush. In hindsight that shouldn't have been a suprise since the purpose of the grooves is to give a little friction. Just be prepared to shed a few bristles. Maybe a different brush type would handle it differently (ie. badger v synth etc.).Most importantly, warm lather is where it's at. I'll never go back to cold canned gel.

Scuttle bowl that's not well known, but True in Quality.
Mid Century scuttle bowl might not be well known as Crown King bowl, but I can say it's equal in Quality. Craftsmanship is Exceptional. This bowl has nice balance of weight, not to heavy or not too light. Handle is the right size for any hand to secure a good grip. Bowl is small enough to fit inside palm of hand while mixing This scuttle bowl holds it heat well. Bowl makes great rich lather cause of its vertical and horizontal lines inside the structure of the bowl. This bowl is deep enough to make good swirling motion to build lather consistency. Another thing that makes Mid-Century scuttle bowl better than crown king is the option to choose two colors, Black or White. You might not find to many reviews on the Web about this bowl, but this scuttle bowl can go toe to toe with any of the more expensive bowls, and at this price on Amazon, this deal is a steal. One other thing to mention, this scuttle bowl comes with a wooden plug to trap the heat in, which is not listed on the description.

It is worth the price.
I admit that I was a bit hesitant to order this shaving scuttle because of the price, but am glad that I did. I purchased this for my husband. I help him shave because he is disabled, so, this review is from both of us. We love it! The fact that you fill the outer compartment of the bowl with hot water to keep your soap/lather warm is great and really does work. We are also impressed with the shape of the bowl, being narrow at the bottom, keeping the water from saturating the soap. This product was very well packaged and arrived on time. Since I have not had any problems with this product, I have not had to contact customer service, however, judging by the correspondence and follow up that I have received from this company, I am confident that they would take care of any problem to my satisfaction.

Great scuttle and it keeps your lather nice and warm.
I've used this scuttle with two different brushes now and i like it. It is not quite a bowl shape so it doesn't look like it holds much lather but it holds more than enough for more than a three pass shave. It keeps the lather nice and warm and creates lather easily. I find it a little easier to use with a normal size brush but my giant omega pro 43 lathered well. I'd buy this again. Oh, and the company shipped this product very quickly.

Mid Century Shaving Scuttle Rocks!
There are already so many great reviews for this product, I don't even feel this is necessary. I was new to brush/soap shaving, and was using a small metal bowl. This wasn't "doing it" for me, so I ordered this scuttle. It is amazing. The very first time I loaded my brush and started making lather I was amazed. I have been using this for a few months now and am totally happy with it. I even bought one for my son for Christmas with a quality soap and brush. He still shaves with a cartridge (I am a safety razor guy), but he is very excited about this product. Nice job!

Nicely made, this scuttle is just the right size ...
Nicely made, this scuttle is just the right size and depth for a 2-3 pass liberal quantity of the nicest, heated wet shave lather. The perfect depth to presoak your brush, and still keep the handle dry. Whether you use cream, or pre-load your brush on a separate puck. The texture of the interior assists your shaving brush in whipping up a thick, rich lather in no time. The hot water inside the container keepsthe lather warm between lathers. I use it with a Semogue 1305 Boar brush, and the two compliment each other perfectly. Proraso Green is my preferred brand, but everything I have used in it has lathered great.
