UPDATE: Excellent support!
So I ordered this unit in the early summer, but didn't get it installed until the first week of August. The unit was great and did everything I needed it to. 2 weeks ago, it started freezing and rebooting every hour or so, and now it does it 2-4 times per hour. I was wondering if someone from JZTEK could contact me about a replacement unit. Otherwise I really like it, which is why I hope they can work with me. Thanks!UPDATE: So I contacted support and they pointed me at some things. Turns out I had a bad HD and didn't have the logging on for Storage errors so I couldn't see the problem. Swapped out the HD and it's perfect! Thanks JZTEK!

DVR Has Issues and Tech Support Unresponsive
The DVR has quite a few nice features, but it has at least one fatal flaw. I have commercial quality Alibi 720p HD-TVI cameras.During the day, the DVR works perfectly. Once the cameras shift into night (B&W IR mode), the video begins to break up on one camera, then another, then all. They will then reset and look fine for a minute or two and the same process repeats.I went to the JZTEK website and downloaded the firmware updates; every single one failed. I sent a request for tech support via their webpage several days ago and—absolutely no response.

Excellent DVR for the price, especially if you're intending to migrate from analog to IP cameras.
Cons:1. Explanations of features in manual written in poor English. Some features not described properly or in more detail like "Video Blind" or "Encode". I figured out what they were, but a not so technical person may not.2. Tech support said my Foscam C1 IP cameras couldn't be setup to record with the DVR, even thought they have ONVIF support. Not a major deal breaker for me, as I already had 16 analog cameras to reconnect.3. Noticed the DVR randomly rebooting. I solved that by setting the dvr to auto reboot weekly and I also purchased a usb fan to extract any hot air that might have been generating inside the dvr.4. You get email notifications of motion (date/time/camera), not actual snapshots of the motion. I have a stand alone ip camera that sends a 30 sec video clip whenever there's motion. I'd really love to see that feature.Pros:1. DVR/NVR has very small form factor.2. Very easy setup and installation of XMEye app.3. Can configure almost everything on the DVR from the XMEye app.4. XMEye app supports remote retrieval of recordings.5. Very supportive tech support if you have any questions.6. I just swapped out the camera cables from my 5 year old Zmodo DVR to this DVR and there was a noticeable increase in the the quality of the feed from those same cameras. Not noticeable as SD to HD, but I now have more videos options in configuring the video feed from each camera that I was able to tweak them to show much better now.7. The multiple tour options can be combined with the option to switch on motion (the feature is called "Tour" in the software). If these features could have been implemented in the XMEye app, that would super!!!8. Easy upgrade path from analog to IP cameras as DVR is hybrid.Overall, the pros more than outweigh the cons for this DVR. It's an excellent product for the price.

Good DVR but has issues with remote viewing
This is a very good DVR, BUT....I had an ongoing problem with the remote viewing software (it kept dropping out, losing the video feed). I contacted the vendor but they were unable to help me fix this problem. So, I had to return the DVR. For fixed viewing (if you are on site, using a monitor), this is a great DVR -- the video is very sharp, and all of the locally-controlled functions worked. Unfortunately, the unit did not allow me to view video remotely (smartphone or iPad). The DVR would only interface with one particular remote viewing program so there was no way to correct the problem.

I like it
I bought this as a recorder to fill the gap as I upgrade from analog to ip cameras. I have bought 4 and 5 hundred dollar dvrs that have the same features as this one but with no ip camera option. The setup was straight forward and simple, ip camera connection was a snap. This is the only hybrid dvr/ nvr I’ve ever used so i don’t know if you spend more money that you’ll get anything better. The only thing I found out is that the analog cameras are designated to channels 1 to 8 and ip on channels 9 to 16 so to view split screen if you have a few of each requires viewing channels that are not connected.Honestly for 90 dollars, this is a great hvr. When all my cameras are switched to ip, I’ll look for a jztek nvr to replace it with.

Great product! Good support! But didn’t last.
Update 3/2020I’m now in the market for a new NVR after about 2.5 years. NVR is becoming slow, reboots often, scrambles my Reolink cameras. I have to set my cameras to reboot everyday just to get a working picture for more than a day. Not great for 4mp cameras. Sometimes the image gets delayed 3 hours up to a full day. Cameras work fine on their perspective apps. Not so great on this NVR........Original Review:Coming from using the very easy Nest Cam with cloud recording. I was worried I wouldn't be able to have the streamline features, alerts and remote viewing my history. This product has exceeded my expectations and I can't wait to add more cameras! The remote access from my iPhone was a must and this DVR with the XMEye app works a lot like Nest. Takes a little technical know how but once you get it up and running it's great! My only requests for future updates, add more camera configuaration settings from the DVR (IR on/off, focus presets, levels, etc.) and 12H timeline for playback (currently only shows 24H in timeline). I've only had a few days, I'll keep this review updated.

2 years good
I've had this in my house with 14 cameras (mixed AHD and old D1 cameras) for 2 years now. Only recently did it finally show signs of failure...and I can't really attribute that to any problem with the DVR itself. A low power brownout (I live in Central America...low quality electric power is fairly normal) last month finally did something to damage it to where it reboots every 10 minutes or so. Not JZTEK's fault...it was working perfectly up until then. I thought it might just be the 12V DC power supply that had failed, but I swapped that out for another and that didn't fix it, so it must be the unit itself that was damaged by the power problem. So, I'm going to order another one and swap the hard drive into it. I haven't found anything else that can replace it for the price. I'm not willing to rewire all those cameras with PoE ethernet, so I'll just stick with AHD.I set up the remote access using DynDNS so I can see the cams from anywhere in the world via my phone, iPad, or laptop. No problems. I don't use any other alarm inputs or speakers/microphones, so can't comment on those. No RS485 PTZ, either.Picture quality is far superior to the old analog D1 standard. Not the same as my other system--an IP based system with high quality 3-5MP cameras, but still pretty dang good.

Awesome Customer Service!!!
The DVR was purchased to replace a failing one as a Band-Aid till we finish converting everything to HD IP cameras. I did wait just over 2 months to even open it and once I did I was unable to logon using the a blank password. I contacted tech support via email and was surprised to get a reply that evening. I was given a "super password" that also did not work.I emailed tech support back and they instructed me to get a key code by clicking on the ? next to the password field, which I did. The next day I had a 6 digit numeric password and that did not work either. This went on for a few days until the tech realized because of the time difference the passwords they were giving me were expiring. Their emails would show up around 8pm my time and when I got to work the next morning I would try it with no success.Last night I took the DVR home and emailed them the latest key code (which changed daily) around 8pm my time, they quickly responded and it worked, it actually set the password to nothing like it should have been.I replied to the email that it worked and the tech was very nice, he thanked me for my patience. Long story short, I was VERY IMPRESSED with the level of service I was provided. It may have been a comedy of errors for a bit but they kept trying till the problem was solved!! I even felt like I made a new buddy!
