They don't provide but I could buy one and I did and it worked great. We learn very quickly to place the pad ...
When bright Dad home from hospital I asked hospice for a alarm bed pad. They don't provide but I could buy one and I did and it worked great. We learn very quickly to place the pad 12-15 inches from the side of the bed so when Dad sat up on the side of the bed the alarm sounded before he left the bed. The price was right around $50, the delivery was 2 days so we were able to utilized it for 20 of the 24 days we had him at home. I set up a baby monitor in My room so the alarm sounded right by me on the baby monitor and I was able to rush into his room before he left bed, which was several times a night the first 3 weeks. It was the best piece of equipment I bought for his care during that 4 week period we took care of him.

Bed Alarm 80 Bucks, Peace of mind Priceless!
We just recently had a family member have a mild stroke that left him weak on the right side to the point he has to take great care standing up. We had a close call in the hospital with he got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and did not remember his situation. Thankfully the hospital had a sort of bed alarm, it clipped to his gown and got to him just as he was trying to get out of the bed without his walker. We were looking for something less intrusive than a cord and clip and that would give him a reminder to take care getting up and alerts his wife that he is trying to get up. First the basics: - Detects a person trying to sit up or get up from bed. - Installation is no harder than putting on a bed heating pad. - Covers only the side of a queen or king sized bed you want covered. - Adjustable alarm volume and 3 styles. - Place under shoulders/chest to detect sitting up - Place under rear area to detect someone leaving the bed - No fancy controls, long manuals, ideal for older folks as the care-giver and user - Easy one button silence - 9V battery or optional power supply (wall wart) She said after testing this out and putting on the bed she got the first good night's sleep since he got home, she was so worried he would get up and fall, and the fear of that made sleeping nearly impossible for her. We were all worried about it also so everyone benefits from this. It does not trigger from rolling over and generally moving in his sleep, but as soon as he starts to sit up, it triggers an adjustable alert and is just right to remind him of his situation and lets her know he is getting up. He likes it as it is not obtrusive or demeaning and he does not have to be tethered to a device. So far it has worked perfectly. Hard to believe how much difference a simple device like this can make.

An alarm sound that would wake the dead
The alarm is loud enough to wake the dead which is good. It works better under the hips. It’s too sensitive for slender people who are restless sleepers like me. The blue flashing status light (I think that’s what it is) is annoying but I figured out if you turn the box upside down that cuts down on the annoying flashing reflecting light. The monitor box really needs an on and off switch because the device will sound while the sleeper is getting positioned unless you can keep your finger on the reset button. It would be easier to turn it on after the sleeper is settled (this is for a person who sleeps alone). I did figure out that I could hold down the reset button while positioning myself but that only leaves me with one free hand to get the blankets and pillows the way I like them. Despite few design drawbacks it’s good value for the money and does the job (I have REM sleep behavior disorder and get out of bed asleep and fall). It keeps me feeling secure and I sleep better without the worry of falling. It’s got a 9 volt battery so it lasts awhile.

Excellent product would highly recommend.
Works just as we wanted it to. We added a baby monitor to it just to make sure we heard it. It fits our needs perfectly. It gives us the peace of mind through the night and we are able to get a good nights sleep without worry. Well we did love it. It did what we wanted. But received it Nov 7, 2013 and Feb 21, 2014 it stopped working. So now trying to get ahold of company, and see what they will do to help us replace it since seems like it should have lasted longer than 3 1/2 months.

NOT RELIABLE
Initially this was a lifesaver for me, the caregiver to my Mom, an 80 year old with Alzheimer's. It gave me peace of mind knowing when she decided to get out of bed and "ramble" which she is prone to do, I was alerted and would put her back to bed. The product worked fine for about two months and then I noticed it started working only sporadically. She would get up and sometimes it would work and other times it would not. I replaced the batteries and got a couple more weeks use out of it before it stopped altogether. I replaced the batteries once again hoping I had just simply purchased old/bad batteries. Unfortunately, that was not the case and it has stopped alarming at all. Out of the four months I have had it, it probably worked about two months total. Don't buy this product.

kind of wimpy.
The alarm was used for about a week before it didn't work anymore. We do not know if it failed due to a rough patient change, bodily fluids, poor alarm contacts, bad batteries (doubtful) or what. The system could be more robust, especially given what can happen in a bed with elderly patients. The system comes in a box that holds the alarm pad flat. Battery installation requires a small Phillips head screwdriver. 9 volt battery IS NOT INCLUDED. The battery installs with some difficulty. Volume is set with a little switch in the battery compartment. The alarm unit is connected to the pad via a RJ15 connector. Operation is easy. The alarm is armed/active when compressed by the patient. When the patient gets off the pad, the alarm sounds until either the patient returns or the alarm is silenced via button on the alarm. Arming is automatic and signals by giving two chirps. The alarm is a cyclic long double beep. Hard to miss. For ambulatory patients, it seemed fine. If patients are transitioning from ambulatory to non-ambulatory, the pad may not be robust enough for linen or clothes changes while the patient is on the bed.
