How to fix this great thermometer if it says “ERR” on power up
This thing is great. You do have to get very close to the forehead to get accurate readings.One tip for everyone - when I first turned mine on it just kept saying “ERR” and I couldn’t even see the default screen the manual referenced. The troubleshooting guide had no mention of “ERR” displaying on startup, only during temperature readings. I was about to pack it up for return and decided to take the batteries out and toggle this small tiny switch in the battery compartment from F to C. Magically it turned on without an error. Then I took the batteries out and flipped it back to F (for Fahrenheit). Voila! It now powers up fine every time. Not sure if the switch shifts in transit and wasn’t fully locked in to either F or C to start or if indeed what I did is the only way to get it out of the “ERR” state. I hope this helps someone, since it looked like two other reviewers had the same problem and were thinking of returning it. We’re now very happy with this device!
