Worse than useless. Gives false positives which is worse than not working at all. Confirmed there was a stud where a shower screen was to be fitted. Drilled tiles…no stud to be seen. Same with a towel radiator. One layer of plasterboard only and still insisted there were studs where there were none. Not what you need when fitting grab rails for elderly people, which was the next job. Unfortunately, I only just tried it so missed the returns window!

I spent some time looking for a stud detector. Started with Bosh and went all the way down to this one!What I realised during my research was that. no matter how much money you spent on a detector, the results will never be amazing, there will always be some trial and error until you get something out of the tool - the technology used is very mature, so any cheap brand that sells it, will always offer a decent product. So, with this in mind, I found that this device delivers exactly what it says, and it should be fine for most DIY out there.I heard people moaning about the £5 reward for reviewing the product, offered by the seller. I admit this is very unusual, but for the sake of transparency, I did not claim such voucher.

Does exactly what I need it to do with the right level of accuracy for small jobs around the house.One important note - you have to remember to press the scan button whilst on the surface you're intending to look at. Don't press it and then hold it up against the wall, as you won't get an accurate reading.This will detect studs, metal and electrical wiring. Symbols will appear on the screen to resemble its findings and this is all explained in the leaflet provided. If you've used a stud detector before, all of this will be very self-explanatory. If you're like me and using one for the first time, just spend a few minutes practicing on a wall. I personally did this near a mains socket knowing full well there would be cabling nearby, just so I could see what it looked like when an electrical current was detected. This was when I realised I had to press the scan button on the side whilst pressing the unit against the intended wall as I did so. You'll hear an audible beep when it's ready for you to start slowly moving along the wall for further detections.For stud detection, it has a bar graph in the center of the screen which explains how close you are to the sides and center of the stud. The larger the bar, the more likely you are to be absolutely bang on in terms of locating a dense part of your stud wall.There is also a "deep" stud detection option, but I personally haven't needed to use this as therefore cannot comment how good or not this part actually is. If it's anything like the other features, I suspect this will do exactly what you need it to do.

Wasn’t sure how accurate it would be as never used one before, but just moved into a new property & was putting up a mirror just above a socket so needed this tool to avoid the wires & it was spot on so easy to use & value for money now I’ll never have the worry about hitting a wire etc again

I don't often write reviews but I was really impressed by this product. It was one of the lower-cost items amongst the various choices on Amazon and I wondered if I'd made the right choice. When the product arrived, it was very well packaged. It has a little zip-lock plastic bag included to contain the product later on, which is a really nice touch. I was able to immediately get to grips with its use too. I like that it has different modes (wood, metal and live wire) which gives a lot more confidence before you start drilling holes.

I was a bit dubious being as this was cheap,however,its brilliant for the home diy person,easy to use found the joists I was after easily and accurately.Extremely pleased with it ,glad I purchased it
