Lonely Planet The Netherlands (Country Guide)

I bought this to help prepare for a trip to the Netherlands. This book was helpful in planning what to see. Lonely Planet offers informative books that can help you decide what to see in the time you have on holiday. There were good insights, the map was helpful, and it was well organized by location.

I purchased this guide prior to a vacation with three children. Overall, a poor choice for my purpose and really, a poor guide book in general. While there is a section on children in the guide, the information and recommendations contained therein was minimal. The remainder of the guide was filled chiefly with hotel and restaurant recommendations. The descriptions of sites and attractions were truncated in general and poorly indexed - most locations do not appear in the index in the back and the only way to locate them is to flip through page by page. While there are many, many child-friendly places to visit in Holland, very few made there way into the pages of this book. Other lonely planet guides are good at mentioning out-of-the-way locations and corners off the beaten path; this guide stays squarely on the path most beaten. While stays at Landal parks are popular both with locals and foreigners visiting the country, the option isn't mentioned anywhere. If you're planning a family vacation, you'd be better served checking websites online. If you're looking for a guide that provides detailed information about the most popular locations in the Netherlands without endless lists of hotels and restaurants, maybe try Rick Steves.

Useful information in order to help me navigate The Netherlands during my first trip. Highly recommend this book as it will give you insight on some of the customs and info in the country which is very helpful.

Great book with lots of info! Has a small section on traveling with kids which was useful. Not all of the prices listed are up to date but the are within reason.

We use this book for our travel to Netherlands and was very helpful about everything, hotels, restaurants, places of interest, a perfect guide to dont miss good tips for traveling!!

I expected a larger font - that's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars - very difficult to read some of the print. Once your eyes adjust, it is FULL of information!

Will try it out when we go there next week. But reading it beforehand, it seems to have everything we want to know.

Great source for basic information.

I have visited Holland a couple of times previously. This visit will be longer so the book is a useful guide to plan a road trip with a small group of people new to Holland. It meets the criteria of being informative, trip out ideas, some useful language and itineries as part of a trip. A useful purchase at a price that surprised me. Delivery was quick.
