Although I didn't do the install, I was there with the plumber at the time. The kit comes with two cover plates. One cover plate is smaller than the other. The instructions didn't mention the larger cover plate at all. As it happens I needed the larger plate because the extra holes in the vanity top were spaced quite far apart. Both the plumber and I thought it was a simple case of placing the plate in place and then tightening the faucet down on top. DON'T DO THAT! As he tightened the faucet down, I could see the pressure on the thin-walled plate was causing it to deform. I stopped him at that point while we had a discussion about it. The plate had deformed to the point where a small but noticeable bulge had developed along one edge. The smaller plate had thicker walls and internal ribs to prevent deformation. That's when I realized that the larger plate was meant to sit under the smaller plate... not to be used INSTEAD of the smaller plate. (See photo). The more robust smaller plate spreads out the pressure of the faucet being screwed down over more area of the larger plate to prevent deformation. I flipped the larger plate 180 degrees to put the bulge at the back facing the wall where it wouldn't be seen. There is the slightest bow in the plate if you know to look for it. It wasn't worth it to me to return it for a replacement.

So we did a bathroom remodel and the boss wanted brushed nickel. Since I'm in charge of maintenance, I wanted Moen. This faucet did the job - it had the looks that she wanted and the quality that I demanded. Especially the pop-up drain assembly. I am SO tired of those cheap, plastic ones that look like they would crack if you lookes at them sideways. This one was made of metal and felt substantial. Packaging was really nice - not sure why they pay so much attention to that, but it was nice. The faucet was super-easy to install with the included plastic tool that made tightening the faucet into place a piece of cake. The time I spent on my back under the sink was kept to a minimum. I appreciate that. It looks great in our new bathroom, and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
