Standard stove pipe
When I read the reviews I was a little hesitant but on recieving the product, I was pleasantly surprised. The pipe itself is a standard stove pipe. The damper is NOT CAST IRON but a heavy steel (1/8" thick?), not flimsy at all. The handle is an "L" shape rather than the old fashioned key. But it works fine, in fact, in our installation it's better because I can grab or hook something on to the end of the little handle and push it up and down. The hardest part of the installation was getting the adapter for the flexible liner to slide all the way into the damper section. Because it was so deep, I had to cut the neck of the adapter so the damper could move without pushing the pipes apart (a couple semi-circular cuts where the damper shaft comes thru). And the bottom of the damper section needed to be crimped to fit the tee coming out of the stove. The guy at the stove parts store did it for nothing. Thanks Matt at Abundant Life!! The product itself gets 5 stars, but it is a little confusing that they stated "cast iron" in the description when the one in the picture and the one I recieved is most definitely not😒

Fires burn more evenly.
I installed this on top of a section of pipe above the stove, about three feet or so. I use seven inch stove pipe and used adapters to squeeze it down to six, then back into the seven inch pipe above it, I find this helps increase air flow up the pipe, and the damper helps to fine tune the airflow to help regulate the burn inside the stove, control the rate of burn, and retain heat and keep it from blowing up and out the chimney. Build quality is questionable, its not a cast iron damper, it looks like thin sheet metal, but it does the job and helps eliminate the guess work and tools required to install a cast iron damper. I expect it will last a season or two? Time will tell. If I wind up replacing it or going with something else I will update here.

This product is described by some reviewers as junk or flimsy- it’s neither.
This device is not flimsy or cheaply made. So reviews are very misleading. You will need dome adapters to install it but if you’ve done it before you’ll have no problems with. The steel damper isn’t thin or flexible but is thick steel. The handle is just fine- no difference from any other damper I’ve seen. If you don’t know what you’re doing get some help - you can find anything on youtube DIY videos and anyone that has experience with stove pipe can help you. I just find hateful inaccurate reviews worse than no review at all.

Genius fix!
This was a genius fix and I’m so glad (sorry!) that someone else had this problem before me!! We have a crack in our wood stove that will not allow the flue to close. The cost and procedures of getting a new stove put in is outrageous! This saved us so much time and money

Only fits Dura vent stove pipes
Well made product, but will only work with Dura Vent stove pipe. I returned this item. Product is over priced in my opinion.

Don't Buy!
Nope! Don't buy this. Youtube how to install a damper - all you need is a drill bit. This actually adds more complexity and problems, and is harder to install than just buying one of the 6$ dampers and drilling two 1/4 inch holes. My problem is that I didn't research dampers before I bought - I wanted a simple solution, figured just buying a damper with the collar would make things easy. So instead I spent 35$ on this junk, and wasted an hour ditzing with it. Why is a 5 inch section of 24 gauge steel 30$? I would send it back, but it's installed now, so whatever, least I can do is warn people away. Here are the problems with this product. 1- It's not what's in the picture. You see in the picture a triangular damper handle with two springs. What you'll get is a simple "L" type elbow where the alignment of the damper isn't as intuitive, probably saved the factory 25 cents in production. Additionally, in the picture you see a cast iron Duravent stamped damper - the one in the kit I bought was cheap flat steel. 2 - It's horribly designed. If you're going to charge 30$ for a 5 inch piece of tubing, at least make it 7 inches so that the damper doesn't get hung up on the lip of the intruding connector pipe. Installed this damper only opened one way for me; it should really be able to spin around 360 degrees, but because the collar is so short anything out of perfect true will cause you problems. If someone unfamiliar with the damper tries to adjust it, there is a good chance they cold force it and cause the pin to rotate out, which would jam the damper in the pipe. Now you'd have to take the whole assembly apart. 3 - Adds more seams than necessary - you're adding an extra joint where gasses can escape. Seriously, buy a 1/4 inch drill bit and just install a flapper yourself, it's not that hard and you'll save 25$ and a headache.

Don’t buy
It says it’s for a 6” pipe but it will not fit the pipe. The clapper will not turn in.
