Is it normal for this to heat up until write speed drops to 54mb/s doing a 270gb transfer in a notebook?

Hi, 270GB is quite a large file transfer, and the cooling inside a laptop is not optimal so I think it is normal. The SSD will throttle down the at 70 degree Celsius to protect itself from overheating. Thank you!

Will this work with my acer aspire 1660g uw92 desktop? are any other cables required? do instructions come with item?

As long as your desktop has a SATAIII connector and slot for the SSD to mount inside the case then it can be installed inside the desktop if not you can always purchase an external SSD enclosure for SATA-I through III and use it via USB 3.0 to USB-C or if USB 3.1 to USB-C for maximum bandwidth, and trust me that's always a great option as well I'd recommend SABRENT SATAIII Enclosure USB 3.0 to USB-C for an enclosure if you decide to go that route..i personally have one and it's been 3 years now and it's wicked fast for what it is I used up all my slots in my desktops and my laptops so I purchased two of those and just installed em in the SABRENT enclosures, and yes it has instructions inside the box but no it didn't come with any cables most cables are already available to you via your PSU aka power supply.
