VANTEC NEXSTAR TX Dual Bay 2.5/3.5 SATA to USB 3.0 Hard Drive Dock

This thing just works, no problems. I had a hard time finding a rock that didn't have a "clone" button. I've heard horror stories about people accidentally pressing their clone button and erasing one of their drives. Luckily this company makes a dual Bay dock that doesn't have the button. Great product

Used this baby with Acronis True Image. Was able to donate a stockpile of old laptops by backing up their images and wiping them with the disk cleanup app. Great machine. Very useful when you need it. But once you're done with it, as a regular computer user, unless you worked in the Geek Squad maybe at Best Buy or at a computer repair shop, the use plummets after the initial need. The saving grace is that it was reasonably priced. And I'm sure I'll use it again. Which I actually did later on after the initial use, so who know?

Used it intermittently. The dock worked without problems for 4-5 years but then started corrupting hard drives, requiring full scale recovery of the data. The corruption happened even when the HDD was only read and not written to. Initially thought that my HDD reached its end of life but encountered the same situation with a newly purchased HDD.

I'm a retired Computer Technology teacher. I also had my own business repairing and manufacturing PCs. That is why I purchased this item. This drive docking station has multiple uses. For example, there are still lots of vintage hard drives with photos, documents, etc. that customers need copied. This docking station allows cloning to solid state disk drives too.

Works great, only 1 flaw, the USB3 cable is super short, but luckily I have a longer one.

During a critical backup, this unit caused multiple freezes affecting the entire system and requiring a reboot. Very inconvenient in the midst of a full system backup. It would freeze mid-operation and no further activity on that drive would succeed including a remount. This even made a shutdown or reboot nearly impossible. I swapped this out for an older Anker drive dock I still had, and the same operations finished without any problem. Less important but still a problem -- the door of the dock I used broke off and was unusable after inserting the drive. I'm not usually careless enough to cause this sort of thing. Later update: I had purchased two of these, and after writing this review, I went to try the other one. If anything it failed more quickly. The first one took about 20 minutes before the first real freeze; the second failed in that way in a few seconds, but then again by this time I knew what to look for and I now know the first one had recovered from some freezes and then proceeded from them. The long wait for a full freeze is probably the reason I did not diagnose the problem a while ago.

I power off and on to make drive changes

Really just got this for data recovery/transfer. Came in right handy.

It's middle of the road for what it is. It's not blazing fast and it's not too slow. It hasn't died, so 5 stars.

Is as described, but for one thing. If you don't set up Windows 10 to Safely Remove and Eject media, the hard drives get corrupted and you have to reformat them. Being I tested it with no data on the drives, it wasn't a bother when I found this out. But if you have media on the drives, you can say goodbye to the data if you do not safely eject them first. Other than that, they work fine.

Excelente producto y a un inmejorable lugar precio. Muy útil a la hora de organizar archivos y pasar entre unidades.

Buen producto, yo lo tengo con 1 HDD 3.5" de 4 TB y 1 HD 2.5" de 640GB y funciona bastante bien. Advertencia: conectar el cable directo al puerto USB 3.0 de la computadora, no conectarlo a un multipuertos USB ya que estoy crea un cuello de botella que hace las operaciones de lectura y escritura al disco se vayan a tiempos ridículamente altos y hacen que se trabe cualquier operación.
