Tecnu Original Poison Oak & Ivy Outdoor Skin Cleanser, Removes Oils 32oz

While I was never allergic to poison Ivy in my youth three years ago, I had my first bout; it was savage. The doctor advised that from here on out, each episode would be stronger and worse… After trying a multitude of “solutions” (and none working) I was desperate enough to try TECNU OUTDOOR SKIN CLEANSER, which cost $32.00 for a 32 oz bottle ($1.00 per ounce). Ordinarily, I would not have even considered paying this much for this type of product. But, like I said, I was desperate! Well, IT WORKS. My land is covered with poison Ivy, poison oak; and, any other kind of poisonous plant that’s indigenous to Georgia. BEFORE I go outside, (after shaking up the bottle) I pour about a quarter size amount into the palm of my hand. I then, rub this all over and around my arm. I then repeat this process w/a new quarter size amount of liquid) for my other arm and each leg. For all areas, rub in really well. After being outside, working on my land all day (I was clearing it with a machete, so that you’ll understand how much in contact I was with all the plants) I came in and showered. Because I was being extra cautious, I reapplied the TECNU after my shower. (NOTE: The directions say apply immediately after exposure; I wasn’t taking chances) Since the first time of using this, I ONLY apply it BEFORE GOING OUTSIDE. I’ve been using this all summer long, daily. Each day, I am outside for at least eight hours a day (so you’ll its duration quality). I have NOT gotten/had ANY poison Ivy attacks since using this product. I would - and I will continue purchasing the TECNU OUTDOOR SKIN CLEANSER. Lastly, since purchasing this, I have only used up about a third of the bottle. Well worth its price PRO’S: • stays on all day; • easy to apply; • ok to spray bug spray on top of it; • not sticky • no bad smells • can also be used for skunk oil; tree sap/pitch(*) • can also be used on pets; clothing; tools (*) NOTE: (*) denotes that I have NOT personally tried. But, it is stated on bottle. (Unknown if stated on Amazon site.) CONS: • really, just the price. Despite being fairly costly, it IS the only product that has worked for me. I WOULD/WILL CONTINUE TO PURCHASE AND USE THIS PRODUCT. Having stated this, I would love it even more (and probably tap dance in the street) if TECNU opted to lower their price, (what with both my husband and I living solely off of his social security). FINSL WORD: IF YOU NEED IT, BUY IT; IT WORKS!

This stuff is the best for clearing up poison ivy rash, even if you don't start using it for days after it appears! I got poison ivy all over my legs and on my arms and started using this, followed by my own anti-itch spray. It knocks out the wicked itching for quite a while and I was cleared up in a few days. Definitely worth the price for the relief you get. And the large bottle lasts a very long time!

Used this stuff since I was a kid. Works great! Be liberal with it. The price is nuts, but the quality is there.

I've had the same bottle for 2 years and it still works great. I'm highly allergic and yesterday I did yard work, I was already breaking out with a huge rash on both my arms but after rubbing with technu and taking a shower I was completely rash free. I'm honestly shocked how well it works every time I use it! To think I would have had a huge itchy rash for weeks and it was all prevented with 2 minutes of rubbing with tecnu. Also it's cheaper on the company's website.

...remember to clean off your contaminated garden tools with Tecnu! I also soak my contaminated clothing in a bucket of warm water with Tecnu added. Let it soak overnight (since it is so diluted) then pour the whole mess into the washing machine, run a rinse and spin cycle. Then another splash of Tecnu, and a regular wash cycle with an extra rinse. In this quart bottle it is a better value, but still kind of pricy. For actually treating my skin, I combine this with Zanfel Wash, which is a very expensive but very effective product for poison ivy/oak/sumac exposure. Zanfel has exfoliating ingredients, which helps remove the most contaminated layer of skin and helps the treatment penetrate deeper down into the layers of skin. Zanfel is supposed to be diluted with a small amount of water but I use just a splash of water and then add some Tecnu to it so that the exfoliating and treatment effects can be used on a much larger area of your body than the Zanfel directions indicate. Then, for washing the rash after that initial combo treatment, I just used Tecnu alone. However -as the Zanfel directions say- if you have an extremely itchy episode occur as it's healing, re-treat with Zanfel (and I dilute it with Tecnu again). This combo technique really reduced my itching, and healed up the rash in almost half the time it usually takes!

This stuff works wonders! Our oldest and I were helping my parents with their yard one year carrying bundles of overgrown limbs and brush of everything we were cutting back. One happened to have a fresh poison ivy vine and we ended up with it on our arms. Tried every home remedy till someone told us about this. Cleared up in no time. My son was 5 at the time, so this was a life saver! I still purchase it because my husband does but a lot more allergic than we are and it helps him so much during mowing season!

I am highly allergic to poison ivy, also a Gardner. This product has been a life changer for me! I might not follow the directions as described, but it has contained each break out spot! I wash my hands with it & disinfect all tools that were used each day. Also, I keep reapplying a few times a day to the hot spots of infection, to form a barrier, so it does not spread, I don't wash it off, as it is my barrier. I also wear gloves to put my shoes on, along with washing my clothes daily. Previously had to go on a high dose of Prednisone. Hope this helps someone with this allergy. Feel free to ask me questions.
