the slide board provides a fantastic cardio workout
I bought the slide board to help strengthen my legs for cycling to be honest and use it when the weather really doesn't allow you to get out on the road - living in England, it will be used quite a lot. The board itself turned up 5 days ahead of its scheduled delivery date which was pleasing, in a smaller than expected box, neatly packed in the travel bag but ready to use. When I first unrolled the board the ends were slightly curled down, which is to be expected but after a few uses it soon flattened out and is now perfectly flat. The board allows me to do exactly what I bought it for, which is to perform a squat at the end of each slide on 'that side' leg and then push up and off into the slide to the other side etc etc. Not only does it work every muscle from your glutes all the way down to your toes, the slide board provides a fantastic cardio workout. The board itself seems well made - the stopping blocks are big enough to do their job without being over bearing - the sliding area has a good balance of slip and resistance when using the provided 'booties' to perform a controlled slide without slipping over. The anti slip rubber underside, when used on wood flooring or tiles, holds the slide board in position perfectly without any sidewards movement. In short, it does exactly what it says it does, plus you can take it anywhere. I would recommend this to any one who wishes to exercise their body from the hips down.

Good concept and well executed
We bought this Slide Board for our 11 year old son who started getting into Ice Hockey. He's somewhat late in the game (no pun intended) so he needs to improve his side-to-side stick handling. We started looking around for a slide board and this one seemed like a promising option. We weren't sure what to expect as there weren't too many reviews when we bought it, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. The slide board itself feels very sturdy and well built. It's been two weeks since we got it for him and so far so good. The booties are made out of lycra and they're good quality as well, which is an important detail as the cheaper ones don't slide so well. We bought this for hockey training, not for the other workouts, but my wife (who hits the gym 3-4 times a week) got all into it two days after it arrived and it actually seems like a pretty good workout all around (the bottom part sticks to the floor and the slide board itself is very slippery, especially if you're wearing the booties, so exercising on it is very effective). I'm quite pleased with this purchase and would recommend it.

For adults get the 7.5ft, for kids, the 6ft
So first off, I don't play hockey, or skate that much, but I do know how. The purpose of the slide board for us is lateral leg strengthening, balance, and cardiovascular fitness. It is one component of a multi-sport exercise regimen. I picked this board because people said it was good quality, and the price was right for the quality reviews. The quality of the product is good- it needs to have weights on it the first few days it is out of the box because it curls up, but that settles down. The surface is low friction, and the booties make sliding easy. You need to wear shoes with the little bootie covers because the bumpers on the board become uncomfortable for bare feet to hit after a few slides. I bought the 6 ft (actually 5'7" between the bumpers) and it was too small. I am 5'10, my friend is 6'2, we both felt constrained by the short distance before the opposite bumper. Missed some of the force otherwise required to get to the far side, and reduced the workout on the legs. Another 1-2 feet to push and it would be perfect as a fitness tool. Returning for the 7.5ft item, same price. Smaller people/kids, people who don't skate often, or those working on balance technique may be fine with the smaller board. I don't know if the short distance between the bumpers would be better for someone training for hockey, when short strokes on the skates and stick handling technique matters most- but like i said, that's not what I do. I would imagine if you are in hockey enough to want one of these, a coach could give guidance on the right distance.

Not as shown
The edges of these are not as shown. Instead there's just a thin piece of plastic on both edges, not really substantial enough to kick off of. We got the 7.5' board, and there are holes punched in as if you could adjust or shorten it, but it's missing the center holes, which makes it feel even flimsier. It's was also not as slippery out of the box as other boards I've had, and even on shortest adjustment, no one in our family was able to slide to the other side. Can't recommend, just very flimsy for the price, and the lack of real borders on the ends is a deal breaker.
