HAIL THE CONQUERING KNIGHT!
“Bring on the dragons and demons. I will slay them. Give me your doubts and disquiet. I will silence them.”Everyone loves to get caught up in an enchanting medieval fantasy about conquering knights who swoop in to save the golden-haired damsel in distress and DARK SEXY KNIGHT by Katy Regnery, a modern retelling of the Legend of Camelot, is pure storybook splendor!!This is the sweet fable of a down on her luck young lass named Verity Gwyn who gets swept off her feet by a big, strong, broodingly sexy “Viking Knight” after he swoops to her rescue in her darkest hour! The LAST thing Colton Lane wants to do is play the good Samaritan, but there is just something about pretty, petite Verity and her ‘”man-child” brother that tugs at him. Try as he might, he cannot walk away. Even though every single sensible bone in his body is roaring at him to do just that. Before he knows it, the scowling, hot tempered Neanderthal has not only secures her and her Ryan jobs with his employer but gives them a roof over their heads—in his humble abode, no less!-- when they are evicted from their fleabag motel. He doesn’t t want to care. He didn’t want to feel. And he most certainly does NOT want to fall in love. Because deep down in his achingly lonely heart he knows never be worthy of a sweet angel with cornflower blue eyes and bright, sunshiny smile.Talk about opposites attracting!!! But our spunky heroine refuses to be intimidated by Colton’s dark glowers, bursts of pure, primal, protective rage, incessant cussing or gruff demeanor. Instead, she cherishes every single part of him---“The Sweet and brutal. Tender and fierce. Taciturn and passionate.” In her worshipful eyes, he became the gallant protector she’d only dreamed about and her world suddenly became full of bright, glorious possibilities! Most specially, love and the elusive dream of forever. Could he be the good luck charm she’s been searching for all her life?Ahh the sweet enchantment!! It’s a rarity for me to fall wildly, completely, irrevocably in love with a hero and heroine at first sight but it happened. In. This. Book. I just can’t resist dark, growly, tarnished Alpha heroes and dinner theater knight Colton Lane makes me want to stand up and cheer! He is so bereft inside I felt his aching loneliness as if it were my own. And Verity with her girl-next-door goodness, sunshiny smile and sparkly disposition is the perfect woman to chisel away at Colton's steely armor and light up the dark corners of his heart with light and warmth and love. He is far from perfect (thank GOD!!)--a Dark Sexy Beast, who despite his rugged masculinity and hard, chiseled physique, is not exactly Mr. GQ either. But despite his physical scars and soul deep imperfections, he is chivalrous to the core, fiercely loyal, and more like the Viking knight he portrays than he chooses to admit!!Colton is such a delicious paradox for as savage as he can be when he battles his foes to defend the honor of those who have been terribly wronged, he is just as exquisitely gentle and sweetly doting on the homefront. Not only with the heroine, but in his interactions with Down syndrome his cousin, Melody who has been lovingly entrusted to his care, as well as with Verity’s developmentally disabled brother Ryan. The chemistry between Colton and Verity was pure MAGIC. . There is such a poignant, smolderingly sexy, visceral connection between this enamoured duo that they gave me goose bumps and made my heart flutter in my chest. Ms. Regnery takes her sweet time playing out each beautiful beat of this romance, serving up a tantalizing slow burning passion that is so swooningly romantic and wild and fierce it literally stole my breath! The author infuses their romantic interactions with so much homespun charm that in many ways it feels like old fashion courtship with one itty exception. The chemistry between this Verity and Colton is blazing hot! So combustible in fact that his book has the steamiest first kiss I have probably ever read. But scorching interludes aside, at the heart o this love story is a sweepingly romantic tale about a tarnished hero and his sweet, effervescent girl of his dreams, two kindred spirits whose souls recognize each other from the very start and who find peace, love, contentment, acceptance, shelter and utter joy in each other’s arms. For me, this book is not about big, grandiose gestures but rather reveling in the everyday enchantment. The pure simplicity of holding hands while driving home from work. Sharing a glass of wine and munching on popcorn on their movie date nights. Verity tucking her big brother into bed, special zoo outings with Melody and Ryan and “hugs and kisses and smiles and songs and ‘I love yous.'"Seemingly innocuous, slice of life moments of which the sum total end up being so monumentally epic in breadth and scope. The scenes with Verity’s brother Ryan in particular are among the most palpable for me in the novel. The close knit sibling bond between them is so poignant and gutwrenchingly real, resonated with me on such a personal level, I was constantly on the brink of tears. I just loved Ryan to pieces! This sweet innocent gentle giant who understood so little of the world but the one thing he understood was love in its purest form.In closing, DARK SEXY KNIGHT is so much more than a whimsical Modern Fairytaleabout a chivalrous Viking Knight and his beloved fair haired damsel in distress who conquer impossible odds and blissfully ride off into the sunset together. It is a story about "Family. Love. Safety. Home. Happiness." The perfectly imperfect “sweet place” in the beautifully textured fabric of our lives!!

Recommended, sweet story of two people who couldn't be more perfect for one another
Where to start.. The whole idea behind this book was so cool! I mean, how do you re-create the Legend of Camelot if not in a theater which brings exactly that! Colt is our "dark (and sexy ;)) knight" with Verity joining as a merchant with her brother helping out in the stables. Though I have never been to this kind of theater it really made me wish I could find something like that and go see it!Verity and her brother Ryan are out of luck, they are without a job and soon be out of a place to stay when they accidentally run into Colt who helps them out finding jobs at "The Legend of Camelot" theater. Verity couldn't be more thankful and she is even more speechless when he offers her and her special needs brother a place to stay when she is thrown out of the model they were living in. Colt is mostly surprised with himself. He usually doesn't make those kind of sacrifices, but I think something in him recognized not only Verity's big heart but also the similarities in their lives. Both having to put the care of their family above their own. It takes time before we get exactly what Colt is committed to, but when we finally do, it was SO heart warming, Colt can be a much more than his usual scowling self, he can actually smile and be happy. In a way it's the same for Verity. She is happy when her brother Ryan is happy, he was most of her family even before her parents died.Colt have quite the issue to deal with in this book. I REALLY liked his character and the fact he was NOT perfect. Though he has a tender heart (which is shown well throughout the book), he also has a sort of violent disorder which makes his reactions VERY dangerous and even unpredictable. Though most of his life he managed, and though he has his way of living which helps him express his violence in an "acceptable" way, it's still there. Verity isn't afraid of him when she sees what happens to him when he is mad, she is worried FOR him, she knows that untreated this violence can cost him the things that means most to him - which almost happens when he overreacts to protect Verity and Ryan. I loved the way it was handled, not only the fact Colt used professional way, but the healing he went through and the realizations and even the growing up he had to go through. Also I loved that even though it was a sort of breaking point in Verity and Colt's relationship, Verity too handled it beautifully, she didn't cower under Colt mean words, she understood where they came from and did her best to be there for him even while he is away (not saying more not to spoiler).Verity and Colt's relationship was building quite fast, but I don't think it was rushed AT ALL. They spent so much time together it made sense, also what and how they were for each other right from the beginning brought sides that are mostly hidden when we just meet people, go out, or hang out. They were THERE for each other right from the beginning. Living together AND working together made the whole deal a lot more intense. Verity is really sweet. I liked her, though I thought she was too emotional for me (WAY too much crying) and I was overly annoyed with how she handled seeing Colt kissed by his ex (even though it was obvious he pushed her away instantly). It was really immature of her. I actually reduce my rating for this book for this incident as well as something else VERY irresponsible she (and Colt) did. It was obvious what the consequence would be and though it was handled really well from both their sides, I don't like this sort of "plot twist" in ANY romance novel.Last but not least - Ryan and Melody. I LOVED both of their characters mostly because it's something that isn't shown in a lot of romance novels. I won't say more about Melody (not to spoiler) so I'll just focus on Ryan. Though there isn't a clear diagnosis of what he "has" (due to childhood injury), Verity says he is considered "Special Needs". Ryan is a bit slow and childish in his behavior but it's obvious he is what is called "high functioning". He is dependent on his sister, but I see it more emotional than functional. I was happy to see how he got along with Joe in the stables of The Legend of Camelot (even though things weren't THAT perfect for him) and generally how much he did get even not spelled out specifically for him (again, not being specific not to spoiler :)). I volunteered for years with people with special needs. Mostly much less functioning than the ones mentioned in this book but it warmed my heart to read as side characters and not only that, to see Ryan growing and maturing throughout the book as well. The story wasn't just Colt and Verity (though they were the only POVs) story it was also Melody and Ryan's.I enjoyed this one, though it was quite heavy on the emotional / angsty side. I think all the ones in this series has that in common but all in all this one, as well as the others, are great reads. I love the way Katy weaves the fairy tale with our modern times, it's like reading something so familiar yet all together different and original. One last note before I finish this review - All the novels in this series are written as fundraisers, each for a different cause. This one being for people with special needs. Which is another reason to buy and read ALL of them :)Tags: Contemporary RomanceMore @ Ultra Meital Reviews.

My Sweet Place
I am having a really hard time putting into words, the right words, how strongly this story has touched my heart.I have and still am sharing my life and raising children with special needs. All you can wish for is that they grow up not afraid of being who they are because of their disabilities. Constantly trying to shelter them from the sad reality of mean uneducated people. While at the same time hoping that given the chance, that one day they find that person, that one sweet place where they can experience love and fearlessness and HOME.Verity and Colton share a sense of unconditional love and support for family, for each other. Being so young and responsible for others well being and livelihood, takes its toll but also pulls them together. And because of this they have taught each other and those who love them how never giving up and sharing weakness is ok.Sharing their lives together with Melody and Ryan, never giving up on them or each other can teach so many lessons on so many levels.Katy you have know idea how close to Home this story is for me. You are without a doubt a Knight in your own right. Thank you for sharing your life and journey with us.

Romance at it's best - beautiful modern fairytale!
I'm a sucker for a true romantic story. I enjoy reading about two people falling in love with each other. If they both happen to be carrying baggage from the past with them or are struggling with some current issues but find in each other solace and a companion to share their burdens with then you have the perfect ingredients for an epic love story. And Katy Regnery definitely knows how to write one! I can't emphasize enough how talented this author is. She is in a class of her own. Her writing style is fluent, poignant and captivating. With Dark Sexy Knight she took my breath away. She made me feel a kaleidoscope of feelings and my romantic heart was applauding her for delivering such a beautiful, touching and inspiring story. This book is a modern fairytale loosely inspired by the Legend of Camelot. I've always been a fan of it since childhood. Which girl hasn't dreamed of a knight in shining armour coming to her rescue? But it's not only a love story, no. There is so much more the author wanted to convey with it. It's also about the strong bond between siblings/family members and about prejudices and discrimination against special needs people. This is a story that stays with you!Colton Lane is a Viking Knight in a medieval dinner theater show known as The Legend of Camelot. He is doing this since five years. For him it's only a job, a way to earn money. Never would Colton consider himself able to become a real life hero. Until the moment Verity and Ryan Gwynn enter his life. Both in desperate need of money and a roof over their heads the duo arrives at a job fair hoping to find some work. Although telling himself repeatedly that they are not his concern Colton can't just look away. He not only manages to get the siblings jobs on the show he also offers them to stay with him at his house since they have been evicted. It should have been only temporary. He didn't want to care too much. But what Colton wasn't expecting was to grow fond of Verity and Ryan's presence in his life. Soon he will find out that he likes being their knight in shining armour. And he will start fighting for Verity's heart and her love knowing that his past and the big secret he is harbouring could potentially destroy everything he has been working hard for.I adore Colton Lane and worship the ground he walks on. This special male specimen is a hero you can't but fall deeply and madly in love with. He is one of my favorite characters ever written by Katy Regnery. Colton thinks so lowly of himself, he only sees his flaws and is completely blind to recognize what an amazing and good-hearted person he is. Yes, he is hot-tempered and sometimes not easy to handle but he would do anything in the blink of an eye to protect the people he loves and cares about. Verity is a heroine I loved and admired with all my heart. She didn't have it easy in life. She lost both her parents and was left behind to take care of her mentally disabled older brother all on her own. She was such a fierce fighter who never gave up no matter what. But as soon as Colton walked into her life she finally didn't have to fight alone any longer. With her silent strength she was the only person capable of calming down Colton's rage when it slipped his control. I liked how their friendship soon progressed into such a pure and profound love that was making them deliriously happy but also afraid at the same time. Colton and Verity had such a sizzling chemistry. It was palpable on every single page. Their love scenes will leave you hot and bothered - mark my words! These two are truly a match made in heaven. What also made my heart spill over with love and sympathy was the special bond between Verity and Ryan.If you are in the mood to read a book that will leave a permanent smile on your face with an epilogue that will make you shed tears of happiness then this is the right story for you. Grab this fantastic must-read and dive right into it! I promise that you will not regret it. Katy, I bow to you!

A True Love Story!❤️
This 4th book in Katy's Modern Day Fairytales series left me overwhelmed with such stronge emotions. Her ability to write such beautiful true love stories is just amazing. This book tells a story of Coltan (hero) and Verity (heroine) two kindred hearts that meet unexpectedly that form a love like no other. This book is so much more than a love between a man and a woman but of hope, loyalty, understanding and friendship. The characters are raw and real and so beautifully crafted they will stay embedded in your heart forever. I highly recommend you read this book that will keep you turning the page wanting and needing these flawless characters to have their "happy ever after". Sweet and touching story
This was a touching story between two ordinary people - no billionaire alpha or bombshell female character in sight - who fall in love and rescue each other. Poignant, heartfelt and beautiful.

Modern fairy tales
This was my first book by Katy Regnery and definitely not the last. What a heartbreaking story, couldn't put the book down, I have also read the other books of this series and cannot decide which one is my favourite, they are all good in their own way. If you favour something lighter, go read the Blueberry Lane series.
