Is this similar to Tajin?

Tajin is a mixture of salt, lime juice, and chili pepper Sumac is quite unique and hard to replace with one ingredient. But you can substitute it by mixing lemon juice and lemon zest with a little kosher salt, vinegar, or tamarind.

Is a sumac a good salt substitute? That's the taste I'm searching for. If not, any suggestions?

Adding any flavor to food will help reduce the need for salt. Sumac is not salty so much as sour, in a delicious way. I love adding it to my dishes. It's definitely worth a try. My best idea for substituting salt are coconut aminos. They taste good and have significantly lower sodium than adding salt, but they are not sodium free.
