Not Quite real skiing but lots of fun
If you ski this program might help get you through the summer. However clearly it was written by europeon or Japanese skiers since some of the terminology is not what we (PSIA instructors) use here in the States. I agree with a previous reviewer that the ski school is the best way to learn the game, but some of what is taught is neither essential to real skiing or to playing the game. Most of the controller moves are intuitive though some of them (balance recovery and skating) are not moves you would actually do when skiing. The steering is very realistic, though you do it with your hands and generally control of the skier is proportional to slope speed and conditions (groomed, ice and powder all exist on different hills) I am looking forward to trying this when I get the balance board to see how real that is. It works fine with the controllers though you can play sitting down so that part may be more real with the balance board. My only complaints are similar to other Wii games there are times when you move the controller the way they tell you and you just don't get the result they say you should (Like putting on Wii golf)My kids (9 and 11) also love it. It is fun to play multiplayer and sit on the chair on the way up together (push A at the same time when you are in the purple zone around the lift) Your mii or character can look around and see the sights on the slopes. Try nightskiing to see various light effects. Though the fireworks are cool at first they never stop so they can be hard to ignore at times but night skiin is definitely an interesting varient. Some of the games are a bit dorky (it is a kids game after all) but they can be fun. The orienteering is not that bad though we can't find the last guy we did find all the others.Racing head to head with your kids is a blast. Particularly when on a rare occaision you might actually beat them. The instant replays are hilarious. Try skiing full speed through the finish line and not stopping the replay of the crash into the wall is great. It would be nice to have a way to save the video's of some of the replays, I suppose I could connect something to the output and record I will have toplay with that. If I figure it out I will post a race and nice crash finish here as a video review for everyone to see.....

Great game for non-skiiers
I am an older, new Wii user. I bought the Wii only a couple of months ago, and this is one of my first "games" for it (after a pinball game and the Wii Fit). I am not a skiier, nor will I ever be, but I love this game. It is challenging and fairly intuitive. Flying down the slopes seems pretty realistic, especially in a dark room. There are numerous little mini-challenges within the game, and the user can earn points that reflect his/her ability to ski in the game. By taking the "ski school" at the beginning, I was able to learn to control the game and procede fairly quickly through the basic stages.I am the only player in the house, so it is nice to have computer competitors in the races and challenges. When my kids come home at Christmas, I plan to sucker them into playing with me. I own the Wii Fit board, and it does work with the game, but since I seem to like to walk around while I'm playing it, the board isn't a particularly interesting addition for me.

I ski-ed the whole thing...
This game is a blast! I thought the various snow conditions and terrain were very realistic (though your would never see all the conditions on a given day at a real resort.) It is pretty easy to control with just the remote and nun-chuck. I haven't ski-ed it with the balance board, but am looking forward to doing so. It took me a couple of weeks of casual game time to master every slope and complete the game challenges. There are a few hidden surprises that are fun. A solid buy. My only con: not enough terrain. It would be great to have multiple resorts, maybe even based on real places!

Great fun especially with Wii Fit board
This game is awesome, especially with Wii Fit balance board. And even though as one of the reviewers mentioned that it does not support acceleration and decceleration by allowing player to shift body weight forward and back - you can get going pretty fast. Fast enough that it gets pretty challenging to stay on course. It is important that you go through ski school first to learn all the controls though. I suspect that the reviewer who was commenting on slow speed of the game did not learn how to tuck in the ski poles and assume the racing position that quickly accelerates you a very fast pace.I can't wait to hook this thing up to my projector and ski on the big movie screen. That should feel a lot more real than on a regular TV screen.

Great interaction and lots of fun
My twin girls (10 years old) received this for Christmas. We haven't tried it yet with the balance board but it's been lots of fun so far. The ski school is a little tedious and one of the turn lessons was a bit difficult to master with the remote. Skiing the various trails has been great fun and one of my daughters has been challenged to various races and tasks with the characters she has stopped to chat with. She has also unlocked a few goodies. We can't wait to try it with the balance board, too. I just wish the speaking characters didn't sound like the principal from Charlie Brown.

A few days of diversion during the holidays
I bought this as a gift for my teenage daughter. We played it for a few days during the holidays and then got bored with it. We use the Wii controller and nunchuck to control the skiing movements. We do not have the Wii Balance Board, so I can't comment on that. The snow conditions and ski runs are well done, but there aren't that many and the ones in the game quickly get "old". There is no snowboarding, only alpine skiing. There is no online capability, and I think this is a big weakness, given that the standard game play gets dull pretty fast. It would be more fun to be able to ski against/with others via the Internet, create and share new runs, etc. The dialog you have to wade through before you can actually start skiing or whenever you bump into a programmed character is annoying, especially when you create a brand new character. Little kids may like this game, but teens and older will play for a while and move on. All in all, I wouldn't rush out to buy this game, but would add it to a Wii collection if you can find it on sale.

Nostalgia!
I remember playing this game right when it came out, borrowed it from the library and played it for 2 days straight! So fun! Came way before expected and disk works perfectly!

When I can't do the real thing...
I bought this for the times when I really need to get my skiing "fix" but can't do the real thing. I love gaming too - of course this isn't as good as actually going skiing, but I can't always get out to the mountains so it's the next best thing!
