Can’t believe this watch was $39. Solar and time zones with DST setting? Casio does it again.

Second time purchasing this piece in a different color variant just because I like it that much. Have had my first going on 7yrs now and have never had an issue with the Tough Solar charging. When I received it, it's charge was at medium. After enough exposure to light its maintained a high charge and hasn't dipped below high since. These are really fun watches to play around with and mod. I removed the stock resin strap and purchased some 18mm to 24mm convertable adapters from JaysAnd Kay's ebay store and fitted it with a one piece Zulu style strap. Also fitted mine with a pair of bull bars from JaysAndKays. You'll need the DW/GW6900 bull bars to fit to the AQS810W. Not a perfect fit, but pretty darn close and within tolerances. This simple but worth the investment mod will cost ya about $30.00. You might save a few bucks if ya go with a cheaper strap, but JaysAndKays make some of the most comfortable in my experience and not that much more for the quality. When I got my first AQS810W, Amazon sent me the wrong color from what I had ordered. IIRC, Amazon gave me $10.00 off and I kept the ugly to me Olive Drab version. I went to Ali Express and ordered the desirable black bezel and swapped it out from the green. So in the end I got the color scheme I desired except the replacement bezel I ordered had orange highlighted letters that really made the case pop. Ya can't beat this little ana-digital for toughness. It might not be a G-Shock, but it definitely has G-Shock DNA. The digital display is a little small, but still legible and the analog watch face is definitely legible. This is a good size chunky piece, but very light and wears nice on my 6.5inch wrist. You get all the basic features of a G including world time, 31 cities IIRC. 5 alarms, timer and a stopwatch. It has some cool animation next to the digital display which is kinda useless, but gives the watch a little character. The baclight is LED and only.lights up the digital display, but its acceptable. So yeah, I just bought a second one of these on Amazon resale listed as still mint. Possibly a return, but I've bought from Amazon resale several times in the past without any issues. And who doesn't mind saving a few bucks these days. New, the watch as of right now sells for $51.00. I got one listed as mint from Amazon resale for $26.00. Looking forward to receiving it and doing the same mods again. Even at $51.00 this isn't too bad. You're getting a lot of watch for your 50 bucks, plus Tough Solar. You won't have to worry about changing batteries on this anytime soon. I own several G-Shocks with Tough Solar / Multi Band 6 & Bluetooth. All of these are great technologies. This little AQS810W gives you a taste. :)~~~

This is a great watch for a few reasons: first of all it's solar. If you're like me, you never bother to get watch batteries replaced when the battery dies and instead just replace the entire watch, so solar watches are a godsend. Secondly, unlike many similar analog solar watches, it is quite light and comfortable. I have two other solar watches. One of them, though built very ruggedly, is also very heavy and uncomfortable. The second one is comfortable, but is very small and dainty and looks like a woman's watch. This Casio looks quite rugged while remaining comfortable and light. My only complaints (thus the 4 stars instead of 5) is that the operation is a bit confusing, even with the manual. Also, you can't see the digital display when the minute hand is covering it, so you can't do things like use the stopwatch or the timer at certain times of day. In addition, the watch is both very large and made of plastic, which can make it look sort of toy-like. Still overall, it's a great watch for the price. For the next few years, I imagine it will be my favorite.

Can't go wrong for $37. And I already have 8 other watches up into the $300 range but for comfort and practicality I somehow like this cheap resin watch. There are improvements that could be made: not all the digits or tickmarks glow in the dark, and the watch is hard to read at some angles because of the case design. Buttons are cheap and stiff. But its solar powered and comes in many cute styles. So I am thinking of returning my Movado because it is a expensive paperweight that is not as comfy and I gotta worry about smashing it on a door jamb. Makes me rethink and maybe just get a halfway stylish Casio dress watch.

For the money, this may be the best watch I own. very durable and can withstand heat and water enough to wear while working in a kitchen. It's now a bit dinged and banged up, but I bought it as an everyday watch for work and I've absolutely gotten my money's worth. Highly recommend 🙂

This watch is exactly as described - tough and solar. I live in a mostly sunny area of the US and this thing has yet to drop below “HI” battery level after the initial charge. It will charge indoors under lighting or outdoors in the sun. I’ve accidentally bashed it against several things while working and no dents or dings. It fits great even if you have a small wrist. I have to take it all the way to the third notch from the face and it holds on well. The strap is sturdy. It’s a good looking timepiece that can honestly be worn for casual or business. I’ve had people come up to me and start conversations about the watch. The only drawback in my opinion is that I can’t manage to set it precisely to my phone and smart watch times. I’m anal about times synchronized and I can’t get this to run better than 20 seconds ahead of those devices. Although this may be an operator error and not the watch. Some people have problems with the hands synchronizing to the digital time on the watch but I haven’t had the issue. And even if you do, you can just recalibrate everything.

This is my 4th digital watch. I love them because of their versatility and practicability. The previous one was a Timex which I loved and had to discard because its strap broke (after using for 8 years) and I don't find a replacement. Pros: 1. Solar Powered. Or that's what they say !! Never having to worry about changing batteries. That has to be a winner right there. Couldn't get that better. No other good reason to break open the original casing if battery change not required. 2. Water resistant. They say good for 100 m. The only time I might be in water is while swimming. That works for me. 3. Lightweight. Strap is light too. 4. Several Timezones. Very handy as I travel international crossing timezones. Cons: Not many. 1. Strap hurt me a little. I am not wearing it too tight either. But it could be just me. 2. The analog hands are slightly off. Ever so slightly that I misread time. I am careful now. Wish the hands were 1 mm longer. Nothing else wrong I think! So far it has been working as expected and if continues so, 10 out of 10!

I have been looking for a watch for some years now that is solar powered, and have had my eye on the Citizen brand for most of that time. However I spotted this one in a shop and checked online to get more information, and I fell instantly in love with it. Waterproof It's waterproof down to 100 metres, which is rare at this price point. A lot of suppliers point out that their 'waterproof' watches are in fact splash proof and shouldn't even be taken in the shower. As a sailor I get drenched from time to time so I wanted proper waterproof. As a first simple test I dropped the watch into a jug full of water and left it there while I drank a coffee and perused a news site. There were no bubbles at all and the watch seemed to sit happily and when I fished it out it was working perfectly. I just laid it on a piece of kitchen towel to dry, which it did fairly quickly. There is no indication of how long the waterproof gaskets will last, so it’s difficult to asses the cost of maintenance. My last Seiko was £320 every 2 years if I wanted the pressure testing, and it’s pointless not having it, so it was costly to keep. At least on the Casio there’s no regular battery change so it has to be less expensive. I have written to Casio to ask when gaskets should be replaced and what the likely cost will be and I will update this review when I find out. Strap and body I have been used to a steel bracelet for around 30 years so moving over to this resin type was odd. It felt flimsy and I was convinced it would snap off if I flexed my wrist. However it has not broken and it feels very comfortable, moreso than the steel bracelet ever did. It's got an inbuilt 'spring' in the strap so it will move and flex as your wrist does. It is of course modelled on the famous G shock even though they don't say that. It looks much chunkier than it is but I do dislike the dust traps in the case design. Being waterproof I guess it will be easier than some watches to clean though. I can't tell what material the lens is made of: it could be acrylic or mineral glass. But it is satisfyingly solid. LCD display The LCD display is tiny and mirrors the time displayed by the hands. you use this tiny display to set all the functions of the watch and it is really easy to use. Before use, set the display to show your time zone, then set the time. Your watch always shows this time until you choose to enter World time mode and choose the city you are in and the time changes to that time zone. This feature is so complicated I don't even understand it after reading the manual 3 times. It basically lets you swap your home city time, to a different time zone and swap back and forth between the two. The second city can be altered any time you like as can daylight savings time. Download the manual, the book that comes with the watch is tiny and it's quite difficult to understand anyway. You can also choose how time is displayed. I prefer 24h display but instead of 23:41:16, it displays 23:4116. It's a bit off putting but I quickly got used to it and I won't use the screen except for the date anyway. If you see 'R' on the display it means your battery is very low and needs charging. You also have stopwatch and countdown timers showing the display, and you can set 5 alarms. There is a tiny 'second hand' graphic on the right of the display but it has no function really, except as a second hand. If your hands and the display are out of sync you can reset the watch so that the hands and display all point to zero. Then reset the time as normal. If the display goes completely blank it probably means your battery is low. The watch automatically turns functions off when the battery is low and you can recharge with a torch if there is no sunshine. Day/date display There is a very odd date feature to this watch. Once set to the correct date, you can display the day in the LCD display, and seconds will also tick by. If you set the display for day, it shows 'SATxx' for Saturday, and xx representing the current seconds past the minute. If you display date, you will get (for example) 12, 9 for 9th december, and then seconds ticking. So the 9th of December will look like '12, 9xx' the xx being the amounts of seconds past the last minute. In Day display you can't change the American style 12, 9 for the British styled 9, 12. Very bizarre! Illuminator I loved the idea of being at sea in pitch black and being able to see the watch face. However something you might want to note: the face itself does not illuminate. The tiny LCD display is all that illuminates. It's difficult to tell by the photo, but in the dark it is illuminated very well and you can set the length of time the LED is lit: between 1.5 and 3 seconds. I was disappointed that the face didn't light up like some Timex and other watches, but it's not a deal breaker. I can see the time with it so that's what counts. Analogue display The time is very, very easy to see even at a rapid glance. The numbers are bold, and the hands designed to be distinct so even in the dark you would not confuse which hand is which. The glow in the dark is very poor. Even with a 1000 lumen torch on it for 20 minutes, it only glowed bright for a short while until fading quickly. In total pitch black you may still see the marks and hands for a short while, but if there is even moonlight that helps them to stand out very well. All in all the display is really nice despite the dark background and you would never guess it was light powered. Dimensions From left to right extremities the watch is 50mm, and from top to bottom it’s 54mm. It’s perfectly sized unless you have a tiny hand. It’s 13mm thick so does not appear bulky on the wrist, and unlike some, if you bend your wrist it does not feel as though it’s digging into your flesh. Overall in a nutshell Solar Powered, 100M Water Resistant, LED Light,5 Daily Alarms, 1/100th Sec. Stopwatch, Countdown (Interval) Timers(up to 10 interval each), Full Auto Calendar World Time (31 Time Zones/ 48 Cities + UTC), Multi-Lingual Day of the Week Display (English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian), 12/24 Formats, Mute Function Quartz Movement Case Diameter: 46.63mm Water resistant to 100m (330ft): in general, suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not diving And all for £40. This is almost a bargain and I am extremely happy so far. Update: Casio have not replied but a local watch repairer told me to expect at least 5 but more likely 10 years before the seals wear out. Watch out for condensation inside the face: that's a giveaway sign that there is moisture inside the watch. He also said the price of new seals and pressure testing would be around the same price as the watch if not more. £40 for 10 years? I'd say that's a bargain and I'd happily buy another.
