I think that MERV 8 is the cost/performance sweet spot for home air filters. The Aerostar brand protects my air handler well enough without making the blower work too hard. I have a PM2.5 particulate meter that usually displays low single digits, so the MERV 8 filter is restrictive enough to keep my indoor air scrubbed. These filters should be changed every 3 months, and they're sturdy enough to last a lot longer if you forget or procrastinate. They're marked to show correct air flow, and installation is easy.

They are easy to install and definitely do the job but the quality could be better. The price is also a lot lower than buying at the store so these are good if you’re going to change your filter often.
