LEGO Race Cars: 5 (Klutz) 7+ Years

I didn’t get these for my own kids — I bought them as birthday party gifts. Brilliant price for something fun and exciting to give to another child. I’ve since heard from parents that their kids loved playing with them. They’re very easy to build, great for racing down slopes, and there are multiple designs they can make with the bricks included. A really solid gift choice for any 7+ year-old.

I've sons age 3 & 5 and they have really enjoyed playing with this and putting it away carefully when played with and trying out all the different cars on it , it's been a hit!

Great gift - hour ms of fun

It's ok but it should be completely clear about how this works. You can build all 10 cars in the book but not at the same time. You cannot even build any combination of pairs of cars so they can be raced, as per the scoreboard intent in the back of the book. With a few extra pieces, including two more pairs of wheels, this could be ok so you can explain to the child that you need to build a new car between each race. You can always build two cars to race but not as indicated in the instructions, you have to modify the instructions or make up your own designs. The cardboard track is ok, a bit fiddly to get the locking tabs in, but ok if you follow the instructions properly. You have to be careful to line up the cars straight so they make it to the end of the track. There are a lot of DNFs but the kids like the crashes as long as you prove the car can actually make it they'll keep going until there is a good race. If the content of lego was explained I might not have bought it. With the amount of lego provided it is just about ok. If a few extra pieces were added so any combination of two cars could be made, and this was clear from the outset, it would be considerably better,, probably a 5. As is only a 2 or 3. To make this awesome for the kids we ended up adding additional lego we already had, without that we probably would have had some grumpy kids.

Neat kits to build with your kiddos. Our 5 & 6 year olds have a fair amount of Lego experience and were able to make both their own creations and some from the book on their own. The kid is set up to allow you to make a few cars at the same time and allow them to race down track. The track is made from firm cardboard, so did require assistance to set up and did not last long. There are also a variety of stickers you can use to decorate that took adults assistance to adhere. It definitely provided lots of fun and some lasting Lego cars to play with in the future.
