Diogenes of Sinope - Life and Legend, 2nd Edition: Handbook of Source Material

Excellent starting book for Diogenes. Thorough as other have stated to the point of repeating quotes from other scholars' accounts.If you want a prelude to this, read his Wikipedia page, if you like that then dive into this. Started with History of Cynicism decades ago, honestly wished this would've come out just a decade earlier from its publication date.Well worth every penny.

There are several better books on Diogenes. There are many typos, and bad translations in here. Almost seems like it was a copy of Wikipedia and translated with Google translate. Not every book on my shelf will be worthy. some must be tossed to save space for others. Such is its fate

I am an admirer of Diogenes and have checked all the on-line sites for more information about his life and teachings. This book contains everything you could find on-line plus a bit more as it includes things written about him by his contemporaries - the source of what we know about him.He left little behind of his own writings. His message was displayed by his actions and life style, not by his books. While we cannot live the way he did without being scorned as he was, we can replicate his lack of reverence for those in power who felt that they were always right because they did have power over others. He would have been right at home during the social revolution of the 1960's & 70's.

This volume appears to have every known and attributed quote of Diogenes of Sinope to the point of repeating the same statements and stories by other authors in other words. Valuable reference source.

Just random quotes without any real sense of context. Not recommended for the beginner trying to learn about Diogenes and his philosophy.

To many misconceptions and untruths about Diogenes in our society exist. Read this and get a clear picture, to your advantage no less.
