SMB Surface Marker Buoy DMB4 The DiveAlert SMB (surface marker buoy) features Closed-Circuit construction, which prevents air spill at the surface. Inflate on the surface to attract visual attention or redundant flotation. Inflate at depth to send up as a surface marker. Solas reflective tape (Coast Guard approved) across the top of SMB creates better visibility day and night. An Over-Pressure Valve (OPV) prevents bursting and easy air dumping. 45 inches long x 5 inches wide = approximately 8 lbs. of lift. Nylon D-ring on the top allows for easy attachment of a light or slate, along with a stainless steel D-ring at the bottom for attaching a spool or reel. 400 Denier polyurethane coated nylon material.

If you plan to orally inflate..buy the plastic version
I spent the couple extra bucks for the stainless version over the plastic one but ended up returning it. I use a Scuba Pro Air II and it, like other alternate inflation devices, has a different inflation fitting then the standard power inflator. No problem, I am comfortable with removing primary regulator and orally inflating. However the stainless version, unlike the plastic one, does not have a push to open valve and one would have to blow really, really hard to get any air into it. I called Dive Alert and was told it is possible, and should loosen up. I cannot imaging that it ever would be much easier so I returned for the plastic version which is great. For what it is worth, I have been a PADI instructor for over 30 years so I would say I am somewhat experienced as a diver.

Perfect SMB
I actually like the metal version. I'm not sure why people have an issue with it unless they are also the same people that hit forks against their teeth when they eat. It works fine, just blow, dont bite! Also I LOVE that it has a small D ring, Something about reaching around and finding that hard ring (between your line and SMB, and being able to put your finger through , that gives security of good hold before taking it off.I actually wish it were a larger D ring to be honest.Anyway, so far this is the best SMB that I've ever had.

Lost on 3rd dive.
Well designed and I like the pocket for the spool. Suggest you not rely on the quick disconnect to secure the spool line to the buoy. Mine came loose and is now somewhere in the Caribbean:(. Use a permanent connection similar to what is used for car/house keys. A spiral wound loop for lack of a better term.

Premium Quality SMB
This is a really nice SMB. It can be inflated orally or by using BC inflator hose. It's totally sealed, with no opening at the bottom. It's deflated by using dump valve.Nice touches I didn't see mentioned elsewhere is the finger spool pouch at the base and D rings at both ends.I'm very happy with my purchase and hope I never have to use it for anything more than a small lift bag.

Excellent choice if you need an SMB
This is a standard SMB, exactly as described by the manufacturer. It works best if you utilize an additional low-pressure inflator from your regulator or a pony bottle. If you're unfamiliar with SMB deployment, practice in a controlled environment first as inflating it will alter your buoyancy quite a bit.

SMB dive alert
Very nice, very good quality, just what i needed. I bought this instead of the overly expensive Halcyon SMB, no regrets.
