Annoying firmware bugs
This router has a firmware bug that Azus refuses to fix for iterations now where the router sees too many connections and drops signal. It has caused me a headacke for weeks until I nailed the firmware bug and had to disable Wifi 6 in the mean time. Do not get buy this or you will struggle with multiple devices connected. It's junk. rc_service: httpd 953:notify_rc reboot ← you pressed reboot ... Dec 8 22:05:40 kernel: ap_link_up(...), wdev(0) ← 2.4 GHz came up on channel 11 Dec 8 22:05:42 kernel: New Sta:80:48:2c:53:be:dd ← first phone connected to 2.4 GHz Dec 8 22:05:44 kernel: New Sta:2c:aa:8e:31:ba:35 ← second device connected ... Dec 8 22:06:03 kernel: Del Sta:2c:aa:8e:31:ba:35 ← suddenly disconnects Dec 8 22:06:03 kernel: Del Sta:96:a6:7e:04:4c:3d ← more disconnects ... Dec 8 12:22:10 kernel: ra0: ===> main_virtual_if_close ← 2.4 GHz is being shut down again Dec 8 12:22:10 kernel: wifi_sys_linkdown(), wdev idx = 0 Dec 8 12:22:10 kernel: wifi_sys_close, wdev idx = 0 Reboot triggered 2.4 GHz starts normally → devices see the SSID and connect ~40 seconds later the router actively shuts the 2.4 GHz radio down again (wifi_sys_close on wdev 0 = 2.4 GHz) After boot, the router starts both radios, sees a lot of 2.4 GHz legacy clients trying to connect, panics about “band steering failure” or “AX incompatibility”, and kills the entire 2.4 GHz radio a few seconds later. That’s why we see the SSID for 10-60 seconds and then it disappears forever until the next reboot. That is not a hardware or driver crash. It is the firmware deciding to disable the 2.4 GHz radio right after boot. The real culprit (100 % confirmed on this exact model/firmware)This is a known bug in ASUSWRT 386_69155 (and several earlier 386 builds) on all MT7915-based routers (RT-AX1800S, RT-AX55, RT-AX56U, etc.) when both of these conditions are true: Smart Connect is enabled (single SSID for 2.4 + 5 GHz) **802.11ax / Wi-Fi 6 mode is enabled on 2.4 GHz Disabled both kind of work around the problem but now I dont have wifi 6 mode. It's junk and ASUS needs to get their **** together.

**Small, Powerful, and Perfect for My Setup**
I absolutely love this ASUS RT-AX50 router. It’s been extremely reliable and handles everything I use it for without any problems. One thing I really like is how small and compact it is. The router is very portable and doesn’t have big antennas sticking up everywhere like a lot of other routers. It’s clean, simple, and easy to place anywhere without it looking bulky. Performance has been excellent. I run my connection through PDANet and use this router to share Wi-Fi with multiple devices, including my smart projector for streaming. It handles it smoothly with strong, stable speeds and no dropouts. I also run VPN connections through my network, and this router manages it without slowing everything down. The setup was easy, the interface is straightforward, and both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have solid range. Overall, this router has been fast, reliable, and perfect for my setup. If you want something compact that still performs great and can handle tethering, VPNs, and multiple devices, I highly recommend it.

Easy to get up and running - good performance - great price
Easy to get up and running. The Android set up app made it really easy. Decent coverage for our 2 story, 2,400 sq ft house. It even reaches our devices outside (using the 2.4 port). The Asus router website allows for a lot of custom settings to tailor performance, guest, and security features. This was a cost effective upgrade for our previous router. Good speed with reliable performance. A definite improvement. We stream all of our TV via Wifi and this unit performs great with zero lag or buffering. I'm not sure how good it would be for gaming as we do not use our systems for this activity.

Works OK, but feature limited.
I am used to using Asus routers and bought this for its small size and AX speeds. Usually, Asus routers have a very nice app and comprehensive features. I assumed this would be like the AX57go portable router which was basically a full featured router in a small package. However, This one isn't as comprehensive and loses a lot of features, at least with current version of firmware. Pros: I tested it in WISP mode and it works well connecting to another WIFI signal. Limitations: -Doesn't support wireguard as far as I can tell. Only has OpenVPN, and surfshark. -I couldn't get the USB port to recognize a thumb drive for file sharing. This may not be supported. -The asus mobile app doesn't seem to recognize the router, so you are left with changing setting from a browser web page. -The web page has limited settings and features, which is different than typical asus routers. Overall, if you want a small, basic travel router, this would work. There are more feature filled travel routers for the same price, though.

Solid Wi‑Fi 6 Router, but Advanced Settings Don’t Behave as Expected
The RT‑AX3000S delivers good overall performance for a Wi‑Fi 6 router in this price range. Throughput on the 5 GHz band is strong, latency is stable, and coverage is more than adequate for a typical home. For general use — streaming, browsing, and Wi‑Fi calling — it performs reliably. Where things get interesting is in the “Professional” settings. Several options that appear to be per‑band controls (Airtime Fairness, MU‑MIMO, and Xtra Range 2.0) actually behave as global toggles. Changing them on the 5 GHz page also changes them on the 2.4 GHz page, even though the interface presents them as independent. This doesn’t affect basic users, but anyone tuning each band for different device classes (IoT on 2.4 GHz, modern clients on 5 GHz) should be aware of this behavior. Aside from that quirk, the router is stable, offers good Wi‑Fi 6 performance, and represents solid value. Just expect a few surprises if you plan to dive into the advanced configuration.

Don't waste your money.
ZERO stars. I bought this in the hopes of using a VPN (Surfshark) on my TV only to have spent $75 for the most frustrating hour and a half of my life. I troubleshot the hell out of this thing, unplugging, restarting, rebooting my modem- I watched several useless YouTube videos on the subject (how to connect this router to my specific modem: spectrum), used the app to complete the setup only to have NOTHING work. The internet light stayed red, would not connect. I called the ASUS help desk only to get the worst "help" of my life. First rep completely ghosted me after I gave her the SN, didn't lose the connection to the call, she just NEVER said anything after I gave the number so I spent 3 minutes feeling like an a-hole staying on a line without knowing if she ever intended to come back and help me. So, I hung up and tried again. Second rep was nice, but useless, after I told him I've done everything I could to make this thing connect for him to put me on hold for a minute then come back and tell me, "Well, since you've done everything, I suggest you return it for a refund." Faaaaantastic. What even is the point of a help desk? Ugh. So frustrating. Anyways, if you have a spectrum modem and want to get this router, my recommendation is DON'T. Save yourself the frustration and give up your hopes of streaming shows/movies from other countries on your TV. It's just not meant to be. 😒

Strong WiFi signal
This router works very well. It’s never had to be restarted. The house is flooded with a strong signal. Easy to install. This router was recommended by my son, who installs internet services, residential and commercial. He has the exact same router in his own home. He says he can go in his backyard and the signal does not drop off. He can access the internet 20-30 feet from outside his home. That’s very good!

Router refuses to stay online
Router worked fine until a firmware update was released for it a few months ago. The router itself stays up, but it loses connectivity over the WAN port at random times, so internet access is lost. Doing a scheduled reboot sometimes keeps the problem away, but other times it goes down several times a day. The issue as far as I can tell appears to be a problem with the Mediatek driver getting hung up and timing out. Stay away from this model.

Cdlt
