AVR-X1700H 7.2 Channel AV Receiver - 80W/Channel, Built-in HEOS | Advanced 8K HDMI Video w/ eARC, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Amazon Alexa Voice Control

I found this receiver on a review site that indicated it had 10 out of 10 stars. It’s a smaller, more attractive unit than my old one. My son-in-law installed it and directions led him through the entire installation without problems. We were not happy with the auto-calibration so my SIL adjusted the 7 speakers manually. It’s only been a week but everything is working perfectly and I am thoroughly enjoying my surround sound.

I'm super glad I ended up buying the Denon. The sound is great and the eArc integration with my TV and DVD players is flawless (albeit rather complicated to setup). The number of HDMI ports is great. I haven't tried the phono input yet but it's inclusion was a major factor in deciding on this model; has both moving coil and moving magnet but you can only use one or the other; not dual phono inputs. The AM and FM tuner section works really well but I can get just about every station over the internet so why bother. I initially had it set up with the wireless ethernet but switch to wired through a switch since the TV and both DVD players also want an ethernet connection. I wish it had more RCA AUX ports for a VCR and cassette player. The audio balancing routine is a nice touch but set up the TV first as it's really difficult to navigate without the on screen prompts. The mic wire needs to be just a little longer for a large room. A USB C connection would be a nice touch but for $400 I couldn't be happier.

I needed to replace a 12 year old Sony receiver, spent over 2 weeks reviewing many brands. I finally decided on this Denon, was a little pricey for my budget but definitely the perfect decision. Top quality sound and solid built receiver. Set up was fairly easy yet time consuming but well worth it. I have a 7.1.2 set up in a medium size room, the surround and height speakers create a theater like experience. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to upgrade and not spend a fortune.

Love love love it. One note of caution. If you are using an older 4k TV best of luck. The HEOS and DENON app, either embedded in the receiver or in the android app is clunky and looks like an old Text based interface. I find it difficult to use and very hard to manipulate the hardware. Despite the Hardware being excellent quality there is much room for improvement on the configuration side. Since Marantz shares the same parent company they also use this same rudimentary interface. Sadly, (or not) it looks like I will be forced to upgrade my television with an 8k compatible model. I have tried everything and am at wits end to simply enjoy music from my TV in true surround sound. All other devices work beautifully including my Fluance turntable and old Pioneer Elite series CD changer. I have those configured as a 7.1 system through 7 Klipsch mid grade loudspeakers and they are excellent performers.

I'm impressed with how easy Denon made the setup procedure for this receiver. I've set up a few receivers in the past and this was by far the most straightforward. Even the layout of the plugs on the back are done in such a way to make connections easy even if you're using bare wire (although banana plugs are still the way to go). The icing on the cake is that the plugs are color coded, with a set of labels provided so you can label your speaker wires top match. My only quibble on the setup process is that the screen font used for the setup wizard is terrible -- looks like something from the 1980s. The feature set is very rich, and it can take some time to become familiar with. The full manual is available from the Denon site. It's a comprehensive 300+ page guide. But, learning the basics is quick, so diving into the manual is something to do only if you want to tweak and improve things. The auto speaker calibration is OK -- it will produce a decent sound that most people would be happy with. Doing it manually is more time consuming, but in my case provided a much better end result since I have an unusual room layout. My system consists of a Polk ES-35 center; Polk ES-15 fronts; Polk ES-10 surrounds; SVS PB-1000 sub. Over the years I've had various Denon and Onkyo receivers and have always preferred the sound quality of the Denon's. This is no exception -- five stars.

This is an impressive piece of technology that can do pretty much anything you expect of it, if you can convince it to work The initial setup and UI is about as straightforward as any piece of advanced technology from 1990. Settings are spread across so many different menus and options that it's pretty much expected you'll have to spend hours googling just to get it turned on. Not surprising, but they could have included a better startup guide Adding new devices can be as simple as plugging them in and changing modes. Or it could take 4 hours of troubleshooting and research. You'll never know until you try. And sometimes the solution is just to restart it 4-5 times until the new device is finally recognized The phone apps are simple enough but they do work. Except if the device itself doesn't feel like connecting to wifi that day (which is about 50% of the time for me), you're out of luck. And no, bluetooth alone isn't enough to use the remote, for some strange reason Oh and you need two separate apps, one for controls and one for streaming music to it, just because. And each one has its own set of unique bugs and connection issues And once you have everything set up, its always a risk to shut down at the end of the day. Because what is working one day absolutely does not guarantee it will work the next I don't know if other brands truly would give a more modern and user friendly experience, but this one definitely does not. Won't be buying a Denon product again in the near future

The Denon arrived in 2 days as promised. This was the 2nd unit I'd purchased because the 1st had been a refurb from 'Electronics Expo' and was DOA when it arrived. I decided to go with a new one this time. Denon is really about the top of the line at this price level. I've tried Sony and Sonos units and Denon is by far the best in terms of compatibility with various TV's and Bluetooth devices. They have a great self-equalizing software program as well. You do need to be aware that Denon is very hard nosed about warranty repairs--if you didn't get it from an authorized dealer, you are s.o.l. if it needs service. I don't know why they take that tack, but be aware. That said, I've had a Denon of one model or another for at least 12 years, some I got used from yard sales, or wherever. All of them worked well. Denon pretty much invented digital audio for the home and it shows in their products. You should also understand that these units are pretty much self contained. You won't be able to use it with powered speakers because the only outputs (other than sub outs) are for the speakers. It won't allow any sort of 'pre-out' or 'pre-in' for external amps or equalizers. This is true for all surround systems due to DRM requirements about copyright. Also handy is their remotes seem to be interchangeable over the years so you can always get a used one from an old Denon (I've lost a few in the past...). At 80 watts/channel, you won't be lacking for volume. Add a powered subwoofer (or two, there is a left/right sub out) and it will blow the windows out with sound!

Excelente receiver. Eu havia comprado o NR6100 da Onkyo, porém houve um problema de incompatibilidade da saída HDMI com a minha TV da Sony e também com o subwoofer da Polk. Aliás, problemas de incompatibilidade com o HDMI parece ser comum aos aparelhos de quaisquer marcas fabricados antes de 2021. Para não ter erro, decidi trocar por esse aparelho da Denon que já apresenta correção para essas falhas. De fato, após vários testes tudo tem funcionado corretamente. Com relação à qualidade de som, esse aparelho é excelente. Não só é possível configurar o tipo de som para cada entrada (Blu-Ray, Stream, TV a cabo, etc.) como também para cada tipo de conteúdo (música, filme, rádio, etc.) através das teclas de seleção rápida, que memorizam, inclusive, o volume ideal para cada uma delas. A virtualização para o modo Dolby Atmos também funciona bastante bem, mesmo utilizando um conjunto de 5.1 canais. Conteúdos de áudio gravados em Dolby ou DTS são reproduzidos com uma qualidade de som excepcional, assim como os lançamentos da Netflix ou HBO em Dolby Atmos. Por fim, o aplicativo HEOS é ótimo e permite o acesso à milhares de rádios por internet de maneira rápida e intuitiva.

A few weeks ago, my good old Yamaha receiver gave up the ghost so I immediately started looking for a replacement ... having previously heard of Denon's excellent reputation I decided to take a closer look at their models. After a lot of comparisons from different manufacturer, I settled on this model (X1700H). The research paid off as I'm very happy with my purchase, the system sounds amazing with my 5.1 Klipsch speakers. The setup was very easy to do and, to my ears, the Audyssey calibration is head and shoulders superior to Yamaha's YPAO that I was used to. I was expecting to have to take out my sound meter to balance the whole thing but it already sounds so good I haven't bothered to do it yet. This receiver gets a big thumbs up from me.

I use this receiver in a 7.1 setup and am super happy with how it works. The set-up is fairly easy (it's a bit awkward enabling the rear surround speakers though) and the room tuning with the included mic worked great for my setup. Due to space, my speakers aren't in the optimal position for 7.1, but the receiver makes everything crystal clear anyway. Google support is great (since the Denon remote app is dreadful), HDMI pass through is nice if you don't want to power on your system, and HDMI CEC works great with most of my devices, almost negating the need for a remote a lot of the time. Highly recommend Multi Channel Stereo mode for watching YouTube or very old movies, and any supported Dolby setting for movies and TV shows that offer it. Last note, the UI is very dated. It's functional and has everything you need, but come on Denon, it makes this fairly expensive unit look like it's from the 90s!
