One Of The Best War Films
Memphis Belle while not exactly 100% factual is still one of the best war films ever made depicting the Allied bombing campaign of World War II. The cast of stars is deep, the authenticity and style are spot on, and filmmakers do an outstanding job of blending real vintage World War II aircraft with the new at the time CGI technology that makes the audience feel like we are there. Nothing quite symbolizes and reminds us why this was the greatest generation like Memphis Belle.

One of my favorite movies
I watched this movie religiously as a youngster. I recently rented it as my nine year old son was curious about WWII. He loved the movie and is getting into war history. Movies such as this are wonderful as an educational tool and entertainment. I hope one day, they update the film with better sharper imagery. Beyond that, it's a classic in my eyes.

Great cast.
The case was broken in the bottom corner which cause the insert to tear.

Classic movie but not perfect
The story of the Memphis Belle is well known, partially due to this movie. The plot has some Hollywood influence but it’s a decent film. The actual plane is in the Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. This movie is a good way to introduce younger students to the history of the air war in Europe during WWII. Particularly the allied bombing campaign of axis-controlled territory. The plot moves along quickly, there’s not a lot of need for character building or setting, we all know what’s going on. The filming is better than expected for the 1990’s production date and is a mix of real planes and special effects. It is all done fairly well.Worth the time to watch. A good intro for younger students of history. Good drama.

Lest We Forget
Wonderful sensitive acting, beautiful score, tremendous photography.Memphis Belle is a compilation of true stories of aerial warfare in WW2 drawn together through focusing on the B-17, Memphis Belle, as she and her crew complete their 24th and final flight into enemy territory. It is a story of unbelievable courage and at the same time, unspeakable tragedy. The courage of aviators is a special kind of courage, just as the courage of the warriors on the ground is a special kind. But whether in the air or down in the trenches, the death is the same; and one can only wonder why, why, why in our one million plus years we have not learned that war solves nothing: it simply rearranges the pieces on the gigantic global chessboard we call Earth.Memphis Belle focuses on the youth caught up in war; and we cry with relief as the final wheel of the Flying Fortress's landing gear locks just as it touches the ground, bringing its young crew to safety. But too soon we forget other youths in another B-17, this one mortally cut in half; we forget the screams of the "rookie" and others caught in the tail section as it helplessly spins through the air. We forget the thousands of others burned alive in wounded aircraft just as we forget those in the trenches dying horrible deaths on the ground. The tragedy of Memphis Belle and all other war movies is that we have not learned. The instincts that drove the cavemen to beat each other to death with antelope femur bones still drive us today; except we beat each other to death with bombs and napalm. Still present are the instincts of our ancestors that allow us to depersonalize those we term "enemies", empowering us to pull the trigger or flick the switch that ends their lives. The difference between us and our distant relatives is that we have less of an excuse. Unlike our ancestors we have a long written history of mankind to view; and those tomes of our history are, in essence, literally pages of unending warfare. The elimination of all contents dealing with war would reduce the recountings of our past to pamphlets. Devoid of any evolution of thought, our history shows only an evolution of more efficient ways to kill each other; and it may well be that even this evolution has reached an end point, for now we have the weapons that will kill us all.As intelligent as we claim to be, it is impossible to deny that something in us must love to fight be it on the street corner or on the battlefield. What seals our fate in these endeavors is the fact that our advanced brains are capable or rationalization because for every war, there is some kind of rational sounding excuse. One can only hope that a miracle will happen to mankind that will somehow divert global thought to preventing war and in harnessing our instincts to kill each other so that there will never have to be another Memphis Belle. That is the only way to insure that the courage of all those warriors who died as well as those who lived will truly not have been in vain.
