Pioneer DMH-WC5700NEX 6.8" Touchscreen Modular Chassis Car Stereo

Arrived on time excellent head unit screen is very responsive and very bright easy to see in the sunlight I absolutely love the wireless CarPlay

Long story short - for what this thing cost me - it's awful. Its SLOW. It reboots randomly, it has cuts in audio randomly (where is the cache?? my CD player had cache in like 1999). When listening to the radio, I have to press my preset buttons twice because it will sometimes not take the input, list goes on. I would be fine with the performance if this thing cost around $150. I paid $600 for mine and it's garbage for that price. A $100 smartphone is faster!! The only thing I do not know is how it compares to other models - this is the only car stereo I've owned with CarPlay on it.

It is a nice product, except occasionally the touch screen won't respond. Fits very nicely in the dash, looks OEM. Overall, a nice upgrade for my 2001 Cobra. The icons are very small which makes it harder to adjust when driving, hence the remote control is actually an easier way to quickly control it. I do miss having a volume knob, the remote (kept in the cup holder) is the easiest way to adjust volume if you can't take your eyes off the road. Sound quality and power is very good (my Mach 460 system can really perform with this head), also like that it has multi frequency eq control so can set up for car acoustics. Airplay has worked flawlessly. Combined this with adding handsfree calling and a backup camera, and it all works well (even with the top down at high speed). It occasionally nags me to hook up a speed input, guess the engineers designing it didn't consider this would be hooked up to something old enough that it only has a mechanical analog speed cable.

Excuse the dust and fingerprints in the photo. This head unit is exactly what I wanted. Everything works great. I love the fact that the backup camera turns on immediately even if it hasn't completely booted up. And it's reasonably fast, wireless carplay is amazing, sounds great, loving it. My only gripe is that the instructions are kind of hard to decipher in some ways. For example, they include multiple models in the same instruction booklet. But if I can figure it out anyone can.

This model has the worst volume control I have ever used. It is unresponsive at the least and very slow to respond when it does. Not just the side buttons, but also the touch screen is slow to respond. When in reverse you can't even use the volume controls until after the vehicle is removed from reverse. The "CarAVAssist" is the worst app ever and I have literally removed the app and am just using the Car play feature, which is the only thing that works well. even though you can't use your phone to control the sound so you can't override the faulty volume controls. People have complained about the sound when using amplifiers, and I can attest that it does have major issues when it comes to amps. But you can work around it by unplugging one of the bass rca's. So strange that it will not send a bass signal in stereo, but it will after unplugging one RCA. I only include this to try to help others with the issue I experienced as well. For a brand Like Pioneer I would expect much better design and performance. By the way if you ground the revers switch wire so you can play music vid's while driving, you have to disconnect the speed sensor wire and the GPS antenna, or the unit will still register movement and lock you out. This sucks because I like to make slideshows to my music so you have a nice display on long drives, that does not distract and hold your attention from the road.... I purchased this to replace my Kenwood EXcelon DNN991HD which for 4 years was a outstanding head unit, until it got the black screen disease. I will at some point try to do the heat gun reflow procedure to try to bring it back to life. Fingers crossed!!!! But I will say that the KW did have major Bluetooth phone issues its entire life and never wanted to accept the firmware upgrade. But it sounded great, and all other functions well outperformed the pioneers. Plus I was able to do my music slide shows on it! Now it's just a $1600.00 paperweight. When spending that kind of money these things should be much better built and last at least 10 to 15 years!!!! A note to Pioneer: you should fix the volume issue and you should lengthen the display cable so people can put this in antique auto's and be able to hide the main unit without butchering their dash. If this worked better and had a longer cord I would have installed another in my 32 Ford roadster!!!! Overall my rating is definitely two stars or less. I compare these to the multiple brand units that I have experience with including: Harmon Kardon, Behringer, Sony, Sanyo, Kenwood, JBL, Orion "RED", Carver, Onkyo, Marantz, Pyle, ADS, Rockford Fosgate, Infinity, Alpine, Quart, Bose, and yes even Boss. These are just some, but not all brands I have owned and have experience with their products. It's really sad when you can no longer trust what used to be the "TOP NAME BRANDS" the quality of todays products are vastly incompetent to what used to be manufactured. But I have in the past competed and won (25 years ago) in the DB Drags. So I have a tremendous amount of experience in the Music Industry and every one of my vehicles have over 2000 watts of power, including my boat and sand rail. It's time to bring pride back to this industry....

Seems like a beta version, even with the latest firmware update. I had high hopes for this multimedia unit, did a ton of research ahead of time and needed the 2 piece divorced chassis and monitor setup for a custom installation in a '79 Lincoln. If you're always using your phone and the SAME and SINGLE source-- you will be thrilled. The issues I saw with the latest Android Samsung and Waze was that the Pioneer latched onto "auto-launch" all-the-time. It is infuriating -- even with the "auto launch" disabled in the Pioneer. Turning off bluetooth fixes the issue from the phone side -- but, when you switch it back on.. Also, when the unintended launch takes place and you switch to another source, you'll find that the main Pioneer screen display latches onto the last music you played from your phone -- and it is not playing -- the Pioneer has merely decided to show you what you played previously. So, linked a different phone, did some testing. Then went back to the original Samsung, turned on blutooth, same thing.. the last song that played appeared and, keep in mind, that you cannot start playing this song from the Pioneer head unit. There's something with the integration that does not allow the Pioneer to fully control a remote source. Sorry for the un-ending non-paragraph rant but I'm really fed up with this unit. I'd return it if we didn't spend so much time developing a custom case and bracket with 3D printing for the dash of this car. Will probably ditch it through spring of '24 when I'm up for re-designing another facade for the next monitor touchscreen.

This stereo was a HUGE upgrade for my ten year old Volkswagen. The screen is awesome, and the sound output was enough to drive my new 300-watt after-market speakers with great sound quality output. The instructions manual was a bit confusing, especially because it interleaved instructions for multiple models in one document, but fortunately, Pioneer has model-specific videos on YouTube that describe all the wiring and box content. I’m really enjoying my expensive purchase! Be forewarned that you will need a third party adapter if you want to install this without having to cut any of your car’s wiring, especially if your car has steering wheel control buttons that you want to control the volume and such on this stereo. You’ll also need a mounting bracket if you want a professional, “OEM” looking installation. Both are available here on Amazon.

I should have listened to the other reviews. Right out of the box it doesnt work. Unfortunately I purchased it back in Jan and just got around to installing it, life got in the way. The screen just gets stuck on the boot screen and then will power off and repeat. Since im out of the return window, Im stuck with a brick. It also appears the unit was swapped with an older unit when I bought brand new and not refurbished. The serial number sticker on the box is missing, stickers are in the wrong spots, screen has small scratches all over it, and the main unit had finger prints and was scratched also. The manufacturer build date is 2023, no way that old of stock was sitting around for 3 years. My buddy just bought one a month ago and his build date says 2026.
