Amazing system

This is my second purchase of one of these. Great replacement to update an old car. My 2004 Crown Vic Sport found a new life and a trip to Hot Rod Power Tour in 2023, now my 2012 Ford Focus has Apple / Android connectivity and a badly needed backup camera.

I purchased this Boss radio to replace a radio in our motorhome. The sound of the radio is good however the Carplay has problems connecting. It is very glitchy connecting to IOS and streaming music and GPS. Once in a while it automatically starts working on it's own if I leave it connecting while driving all of a sudden the music and maps show up. We had a professional audio stereo business install it. We have tried connecting with 3 different iPhones to make sure it is not the phones, and the issue happens with the all the iPhone. This unit is faulty and may need to be returned to the manufacture or the seller. We will investigate our options.Update: called the warranty Company in Oxnard, CA and communicated with Chris and Frank who calls himself the manager. They want $299 to return the defective radio or want me to destroy it and send the pics and serial however refuse to ship a replacement until the radio is removed. Bad business practices if a company asked you to pay again for a defective radio. This is my experience so we have ended our retail relationship with this shady company. The radio is as bad as the customer service.UPDATE: This wired Boss radio USB does not support the latest Apple USB C. Won’t work with any adapter therefore the wired CarPlay does function at all.

I installed this setup myself in a 1990 Vw Vanagon . The install was fairly straightforward with good instructions provided . This was a huge upgrade from the old school CD player that it replace . Apple CarPlay works flawlessly, I haven’t been able to connect to the Android Auto on my wife’s phone but I haven’t given it much time as I primarily drive this vehicle. Navigate the interface is fairly straightforward even for a non tech person such as myself . For the price I paid ( I bought a certified refurbished unit ) I think it’s extremely good value . I especially like that it has a volume knob as most stereo’s of this style don’t . Some have complained about the brightness at night but I don’t think it’s that big of a deal since you can push on the time in the corner of the screen and it blacks out the screen. Overall I would recommend this unit .

It wasn’t bad to install at all. I did get an adapter for the cables to match my Ford truck. I have been using about 3 weeks and once the display came up blank. Later I put the display back on and it worked fine after restarting my vehicle. The screen is dark in CarPlay but Indid find if I dim interior lights and jiggle the light knob the screen will go bright. I can’t say the problem is with the vehicle or the radio but read on. I would have rated it higher but I am fairly certain I was given a refurbished device. I say that because when connecting to carplay for the first time it brought up ‘Ken’s iPhone.’ I specifically ordered a new radio so I feel cheated out of money and I will always feel I have a buggy device because of it. I would return it but it isn’t worth the trouble and I’m sure the company counted on that in order to send a refurb.
