ChlorMaker Saltwater Chlorine Generation System for Spas and Hot Tubs Up to 2000 Gallons

I have had a hot tub for 20 years now. I have tried everything to get away from harsh chemicals. My latest what Hydrogen Peroxide but I was extremely fussy to use. But this ChlorMaker take salt (I use Dead Sea mineral salts) and turns it into a very mild natural form of chlorine. When you first open the lid you get a little whiff of chlorine smell because its trapped but once in the tub you do not smell it any more. Takes a little time to get it adjusted right but after a few months now I still have crystal clear water. No need to shower after. The salt level is very low. Great invention. I add nothing to the tub any more. Update: Its been 5 months now. I still love this thing. Two additional comments. If you are on a well with some minerals or iron in your water the unit will sense the salt is to high so you must run your salt level at a lower than recommended amount. Also I have found for my tub size level 4 is a bit to low and 5 is a bit to high so I run on level four and hit the Boost button every other day when I get out of the tub. We use ours every morning. Well its been 3 years now. I am ordering a new hot tub and will use my ChlorMaker on the new tub. This thing works so well I would never have a tub without it. If you keep good notes the next time you change water you know exactly how much salt to put in. I bought an extra drop in unit and put a plug on both of then so I can keep one soaking in vinegar and when I need to clean the next one I just unplug one and plug in the other so one is always ready and clean. update..if you use different kinds of salt the amount you use will increase or decrease when you change the water. It is best to stick with the same salt so you can learn how many cups you need for a fresh start with new water. someone said it takes a few days to get the level up. Just add a little clorine to the water at start up so the unit does not have to do all of the work. Also if you have the unit set to low and your level drops way down. Turn it up on setting and again give it a litte powder clorine to help it out. I finally wore out my electrode after 5 years and just ordered a new one. I love this unit....

Chlormaker DO is an terrific product. I bought this direct from the mfgr not on Amazon over a year ago. It has worked flawlessly. I have a vacation home with a hot tub, which is quite hard to keep chlorine levels proper when you are there only on weekends. I found myself traveling a couple of hours just making sure the hot tub had enough chlorine when we cannot come up. With this I have no worries that chlorine levels stay consistent even for weeks at a time!! You just need to monitor the ph levels to make sure they are ok. You will need to play around with the settings to get the right levels, but that is easy. In fact everything is easy, from set up to use. Just make sure you have a dedicated outlet within 10-15 ft. You just need to drill 2 small holes on the side of the tub, to install. The boost feature is nice but only for short soaks in the tub. If you have a lot of people using it. Just add some plain Clorox to amend the ch levels or for shocking. I do not use dichlor one CY levels get to about 40. This is very important as too much CY will require higher levels of ch to keep your tub bacteria free. That is a different story though. Anyway this is a must have. PS. This may void your warranty on the hot tub, so check with your hot tub mfgr. Also, if you winterized like I do, you will need to remove the unit completely.

Like so many other smart people, we know that "real" chlorine is not healthy. It was hard to find this product and I didn't see anything better at the time. We bought the "Chlormaker" for our spa in May 2020 and then the Mega Chlor in June 2020. We paid well over $300 for each of them (when tax and shipping were considered). The Mega Chlor is still working in our pool, has been great, and we have not no problems with it (fingers crossed). But, the Chlormaker has been problematic pretty much from the start. What happens is that it will have lights coming on that are signaling that the salt is too low, too high, or just right, but the readings the unit is giving are not correct. For example, if it says the salt is too low and you add just a little, it can jump way up and say that you have too much salt. So, imagine the different combinations of lights you could get, and that's what we saw. We contacted the company by leaving them a voice message and they sent us the new part that goes into the water (only), and not the full unit. That fixed the problem for a while, but now when we plug it in, there are no lights whatsoever, and it is apparently dead. Like many other customers here, this is very disappointing as we have almost $700 invested in these two units and one is completely unusable now. I appreciate that some of the people who write reviews here are putting in the names of products similar to this that do work, and last like they should. If you haven't purchased this yet, don't do it! You will be sorry. You will love it at first, and then be really let down when it crashes!

I have spent hundreds on modifing hot tubs plumbing to install a salt water chlorine generator. Her skin is super sensitive to chlorine pools and water. It tears up her skin. But salt water is very therapeutic for both our skin. We have been doing this for years. It is great for our joints and couple time. I blanched at the $300 price, twice what the small inline systems are. I was replacing those every year and the plumbing was horrible to maintain, usually breaking down in the dead of winter. This one is no plumbing, pop off the head and replace it when the electrode erodes away. Pretty simple. It had high marks in reviews. I have waited two months to write my review to make sure it worked. I installed it on a new Intex blow up hot tub, 209 gallons. There are no parts that freezing temperatures can damage. I doubt the control box is rain proof. It is small, I placed it under the cold weather housing I built for the hot tub controls. We use it all winter. I also put a sand filter in that cleans the water, all three are in the insulated enclosure. At first I had trouble getting my free chlorine up to range. That was because I was getting the salt level adjusted on the fresh batch of water and need to add more salt. Then I played with the generator level control till the chlorine was good. I am using a two out of ten setting currently. This should have no problem up to 1200 gallons. They say to pull the head out of the water during use or you may feel tingling. Neither of us feel any of that and we are both scientists very familiar with electrical systems. They recommend hanging it vertical as close to the bottom as possible. That works well. We do get some white mineral products on the bottom of the tub, I think from the salt being consumed. We clean the floor of the tub with a net to remove this. The water is Chrystal clear. All the parameter except hardness are perfect. It wants me to add some hardness, calcium i think. The worst part is the control. You have to read the instruction manual to decode the adjustments. It would be great if they were printed on the housing. I guess I will do that myself. I am very please with this unit so far. I recommend you buy this device.

Bought this for a 1000 gal swim spa. Installation is plug and play - you plug it in and put the wet-end in the water. Initially I tried to suspend it using a float but as long as you don't step on the tube, there's not much difference leaving it on the bottom - just aim for the deepest point as the chlorine bubbles will float up. As other mentioned, salt is about have as much as a saltwater pool - I aim for 2000ppm, which is probably the upper limit. The instructions are non-existent so you have to figure things out. Holding the button until it blinks, then toggling and counting the blinks is a little tricky. I've had it about 2 months now and for my 1000 gal spa, I keep it at 8/10 and hit boost after each use and my water has remained more clear than I could ever keep it with chlorine pucks. I'll still throw non-chlorine shock in about once every 3 weeks, just in case. Can't speak to the longevity of the product but after 2 months at a pretty high setting, I see no scaling on the plates so hopefully I'll get a few years out of this unit.
