They were OK at best when I was using them, often failing to cut through the very last part of the lid. Then after having them for about 10 days, my oldest son used them and they fell apart. Admittedly, he turned the handle the wrong way, causing the handle to unscrew itself, which would not have happened had he turned the handle the right way, but they should design them in such a way that they can just unscrew and fall apart like that. I put them back together, but they seem to work on such fine tolrances, that re-assembled, they just don't work at all, wont grip the can, penetrate the lid or do anything. Either way, they are certainly no better than any of the cheaper offerings and in the way they fall apart, when turned the wrong way, considerably worse than many cheaper offerings.

This was bought as a replacement for a much older Leifheit can opener of a similar design. While working well initially, the can opener is showing signs of premature ageing. After one year of fairly infrequent use, the action has started to become a lot more ragged, and harder to use. Inspection has revealed that the teeth of the two gear wheels that grip the lip of the can are damaged due to misalignment. The pivot rivet that holds the two handles together has loosened, causing the misalignment. I may have just bought an odd one, but the previous Leifheit lasted at least five years, so this is a disappointment-hopefully a one-off, as it is otherwise well made.

2013-11-05:El pedido lo realicé el domingo y aunque la fecha prevista de llegada era para el jueves, el lunes recibí un SMS que me avisaba que en breve lo tendría y me llegó el martes. Por lo que el envío ha sido excelente.En el paquete que llegó, el cartón costó un poco abrirlo, por lo que tuve que finalmente romper el embalaje, de todos los pedidos realizados, es el primero que me cuesta abrir, todos los demás tenían un sustema de apertura realmente fácil.En el interior estaba el abrelatas, en una bolsa de plástico fino sin cerrar ni nada, dando la sensación de que no era un producto nuevo, salvo por una pequeña brida de plático que sujetaba los dos brazos del abrelatas. Pienso que es un producto nuevo porque así lo compré y confío en la seriedad de Amazon, pero el embalaje es la sensación que daba.En cuanto al abrelatas, no tiene piezas de plástico salvo la rueda con la que se abre. Todo lo demás es de metal inoxidable, por lo que parece que puede meterse en el lavavajillas, pero es algo que no he probado y no sé si llegaré a hacer.El funcionamiento es muy cómodo, abre la lata fácilmente y de forma rápida. Aunque en la descripción pone que no deja bordes en la lata, es verdad que el borde de la lata no corta, pero la tapa que queda sí queda cortante, por lo que hay que tener cuidado, como con otros abrelatas.A la hora de coger la tapa, se utiliza un imán que tiene, pero no siempre coge bien la tapa y se puede caer, por lo que si en el contenido hay líquido, puede salpicar. Otros abrelatas tienen como una pequeña pinza que es mejor, es el caso de los abrelatas WMF.Sin embargo, he probado otro abrelatas de la marca WMF y tanto la lata como la tapa la dejan sin bordes cortantes, por lo que el resultado me gusta mucho más. Además, el borde de la tapa queda redondeado y se puede poner en la lata a modo de tapa por si no se termina todo el contenido de la lata. Me parece mejor marca WMF por dejar también la tapa que quita sin bordes.Por tanto aunque es una abrelatas que cumple su función más que suficiente, me parece mejor abrelatas los de la marca WMF, al menos el que probé, aunque también es cierto que cuesta casi el doble.Pros:- Cómodo de utilizar- Apenas tiene partes de plástico, y la que parece es resistente y podría utilizarse en el lavavajillas, aunque no lo he probado.-Deja el borde de la lata sin filo y no corta.Contras:-El borde de la tapa que se quita es cortanteEl mecanismo para coger la tapa con el imán no es del todo efectivo y a veces se puede caer la tapa.
