Carrot Design Circular Hoe Hand Garden Weeding Tool

Quality Tool
Nicely made - solid construction - feels good in my hand like a real tool and not a toy - safely packaged - quick delivery. If I were tempted to give it 4 stars (and I am not) it would only because a longer handle for less bending would be nice. But the quality and construction is A-One. Something you do not always see these days - so many one season throw away tools! This one looks like a keeper.I am an ordinary purchaser and consumer just like you. I received no benefit of any kind for writing this review - and if offered I would refuse. This is how we can make these reviews real and help each other weeding out (unintended pun for this product!) the inferior junk out there.

Love the size!
The size of this weeding tool is right on! It allows one to get close to the landscaping plants without harming them A hoe or a Hula hoe would be too large to get in between the plants. The tool is tough, durable and yet lite weight. I changed mine to a long handled tool by taking of the short handle, drilling a hole in a long handle, applying Gorilla Glue to the metal stem of the Carrot tool and inserting the stem into the hole of the long handle! Voila! A long-handled Carrot is born! My friend and I are working on a prototype which would piece together three or 4 wooden sections to make a 53-56 inch long wooden handle. I was told shipping long-handled tools was a problem. That is the reason for working on a solution. At any rate, the Carrot is a PERFECT weeding tool and well-deserving of 5 stars. Sorry, I am forgetting those gardeners who use a bench or pad for the knees. For you, it will soon be your favorite tool. You will find yourself looking for excuses to go outside in your garden and use your "Carrot". It is that easy and that much fun to use. Its length at just under 15 inches is just right to work an area around you. Stand up, take a breather, move your bench/pad and start a new area. The item is sharp, yet tough. The handle is just right for the hand. It will last a lifetime, if you do not lose it. I suggest you thread a bright-colored ribbon to the handle to easily locate this unique little tool.

LOVE IT
I love this little tool. It takes out the weed like a large hoe but without having to stand up or take out a ton of dirt around it. The size and design makes it easy to work in between plants. Also, depending on your method, you can either cut the weed at the root or pull the weed (root and all) out. I hesitated buying it for a few days because it seemed a bit pricey; however it is super strong and the handle is solid wood and very comfortable to hold. This little tool appears it will last a lifetime.

Not a new design
I got a circle hoe several years ago with a long handle They are amazing. This small unit should have been perfect or so I thought. It is about the only one made today. The long handled model is discontinued. The problem I have with this one is the handle could be about 8-11 inches longer to allow more pressure or two handed close work. The circle radius is slightly too small making it useful only if the soil is already very pliable such as in high content peat beds. Ideally the diameter would be better at 3.5 or more inches. If soil is very wet the small diameter plugs up easily. In limited applications it probably works OK or if your just dinking around a plant or two but high volume work it falls short. If I ever get the chance to buy another long handle version I will and just cut the handle down to size. Also, the cutting edge is not very sharp. Actually it is about a 1/16 edge so you need to have a file to re manufacture a sharp cutting edge.

My favorite tool!
This is a replacement for my previous circle hoe, my favorite tool. Best gardening tool ever! It is tough enough to dig roots out of hard soil but shaped so you can carefully dig weeds out of soft soil right next to your seedlings. This is the only tool I need in my garden 90% of the time.

These weeders are the best! I always had trouble getting close to the base of the plants - I would nick or cut the stems if I got too close, but if you can't get right up to the base, you will have weeds growing there. I learned about these hoes from a person who used to supervise groundskeeping at Disneyland, where they use them to perfectly groom their amazing flower beds. They are fairly expensive for a hoe, but you will have it forever, and you will wonder what you ever did without it.

Perfect tool for this new gardener
Although I've grown container plants for years, this was my first attempt at a full garden plot. All my new garden neighbors warned me that I'll spend more time with weeds than with the plants, so I researched and settled on this. It seemed a little like a splurge given I wasn't sure how good the garden would grow, but I'm so glad I did! Its so super simple to use, and very effective. I have been able to get around all the plants easily as well as do larger areas that I never planted or planted late. Its like cutting through butter in turned over soil, but will take more work in the harder packed stuff, so I'll probably be on the search soon for something a bit longer and tougher for that job.

Best Garden Tool out There!
I began using the Circle Hoe when I received one for a gift several years ago, and it was the best designed gardening tool that I ever had used. When I saw the Carrot design circular hoe, I was so excited because the Circle Hoe was no longer being sold for some reason. This Garden tool can do just about everything. I use it to dig holes to plant flowers, dig up weeds and just dig in the dirt ! I definitely plan to buy more of these for my friends, because it is the absolute best designed garden tool!
