Q: Is the bottom held in place with straps or elastic

Thin elastic straps, they hold but does not keep the cover from sliding.

Q: My car does not have a removable headrest.Can these seat covers go on?

My car does have removable headrests but if I used that part of the cover the seat cover would have been too baggy on the seat so I just put the cover over them. The only thing is that there is a hole in the top of the cover for the headrest so I just pulled the elastic tie as tight as I could to make a knot. Hope that helps. I drive a Subaru impreza.

no, not side airbag compatible. no, they do not have storage pockets on the back of the front seats. sorry to disappoint. just basic seat covers, no frills.
