The top of the tube needs to be out of the water and you breath through there. You will not be able to breath if the top of the tube is in the water, it will close off to avoid getting water inside.

How do you pretreat goggles?

A couple of simple ways to prevent fogging: 1) apply a thin layer of any gel toothpaste then rinse it with water 2) simply apply spit on it and rinse.
