PSA7 Electric Long Point Pencil Sharpener for Artist, Auto Stop & Fast Sharpening, 8-17mm Super Long Point, Artist Pencil Sharpener Plug in for φ6-12mm Charcoal/Drawing/Sketching/Colored Pencils

I have been a professional illustrator for 50 years. I do a lot of artwork and this pencil sharpener is everything it promises. The sharpener stops automatically when the pencil is sharp. It has two settings for sharp point, or a sligly rounded point. It strips enough of the wood away from the lead to create a nice, long point that is better for sketching. It is perfect for color pencils, charcoal pencils, watercolor pencils, etc. I have a couple pencils that are thicker than usual, and this sharpener has no problem fitting the sharpener.

Look, I'm not a fantasy nerd. Okay, maybe a little fantasy nerd. But I never expected my quest for the perfect pencil point to land me face-to-face with a grumpy fire-breathing dragon named Steve. Yep, you read that right. This electric pencil sharpener isn't just a whirring marvel of modern engineering, it's a gateway to another dimension. It all started innocently enough. My old hand crank was about as exciting as watching paint dry (seriously, who invented that torture device?). So, I splurged on this sleek, beauty with a price tag that didn’t make my wallet cry. Boy, did it deliver! Forget your standard graphite spears, this thing sculpted points sharper than a goblin's wit. Then, things got weird. One afternoon, mid-sharpen, a low hum vibrated from the base. The air crackled, my hair stood on end, and suddenly, my desk vanished. Instead, I was knee-deep in emerald grass, staring at a towering oak studded with shimmering portals. This, my friends, was not your average IKEA showroom. Fear not, adventurous readers, for I, armed with nothing but a dozen sharpened Dixon Ticonderogas and a healthy dose of caffeine, braved this fantastical land. I met trolls who argued philosophy, befriended a squirrel with a monocle, and even had tea with Steve the dragon (turns out, he prefers Earl Grey with a lemon twist). My epic journey culminated in a showdown with the Pencil Lich, a villain obsessed with dullness. With a battle cry of "Sharpen or perish!" and a volley of graphite spears, I vanquished the beast and restored pointy perfection to the realm. So, yeah, this electric pencil sharpener is five stars, no question. It sharpens like a dream, opens portals to magical worlds, and introduces you to dragons with excellent taste in tea. Just be prepared for the occasional troll tax and the potential for epic, pencil-fueled battles. Trust me, it's all worth the slightly singed eyebrows. P.S. Steve says hi. He's still working on the whole "fire-breathing" thing, but he makes a mean scone.

I have had the manual version of this for years, and it still works fine, but I thought I would go mad and try the electric. It is just wonderful and lightning fast. You can set it for short or long points. Perfect for graphite or colored pencil artists.

Using this for charcoal, both black and white, and so far it works great. Just what I was needing.

The exposed long point enables one to have an extended view of your immediate contact with the drawing field, since your grip fingers are set back and away from the pencil tip and not choking the point. This facilitates an interesting ease to the drawing process.

Works well and sharpens almost to a point. The only drawback I have is that if you want a needle pointed pencil this one won't do it. The extended lead helps quite a bit. If you need a needle tip use the sanding board.

If only I had ordered this AFMAT as my first sharpener I could have saved enough money to buy two AFMATs! At last, a sharper that gives me the criticality in sharpness needed for doing professional looking work with colored pencils.

It sharpens and it sharpens fast! It’s addicting lol It has a little slider on the front that allows you to switch between two different point lengths. I only use the shorter point because the lengths are pretty similar. No pencils have gotten stuck so far, but it will chew up a cheap one. Pictured are dollar tree colored pencils and Amazon brand charcoal pencils. The soft charcoal one kept breaking and a few of the colored pencils did too, but I blame that on the cheap pencils. The harder charcoal pencils sharpened just fine and so did most of the colored pencils. You have to connect it to an outlet, this is not battery powered. I prefer this, but it’s good to note in case you wanted to use this while outdoors or away from home. I love not having to resharpen pencils while I’m working, but now it’s kinda fun when I do have to!

So I was a bit concerned when the details said not to use on really soft pencils as my artist set did include soft lead pencils, but I figured I’d give it a try. After all how soft is really soft? Well the attached photo is one of the softest lead pencils I have - being 5B and wow! Just incredible. Nice and long sharpened lead makes it easy for shading and the even shave of the blade is almost like a sanding smooth finish. So glad I spent a little extra to get this one. Worth every cent!

The pencil comes out not pointy enough

A product that lives up to the hype: long pencil points have long been beloved by architects artists etc as it saves them the time and effort of constantly resharpening pencil leads. This product (I’ve had it for around 2 months) seems sturdy, the method of sharpening is very simple and there are options for reducing the lead exposure- better for softer leads like colour or charcoal based pencils. The wood shavings are collected neatly in the base of the sharpener, easy to open up and clean everything. I’ve sharpened a lot of pencils with this product, yet despite the almost insane exposed lead lengths, yet to have one break on me. Buy without hesitation. Note that it has a lot of plastic components so I don’t expect it to last forever but products that have that long life assurance don’t have this level of performance. And I go for performance everytime.
