Stop chasing money and start redefining success Sure, money is important. And yes, it can make you happy--but only up to a point. The truth is, science has shown that we each have a set point that links our earnings with happiness; go beyond that point, and your happiness ceases to increase with income. In this illuminating guide to living a financially healthier, and happier, life, bestselling author and financial journalist Andrew Hallam demonstrates how you can optimize your income for maximum happiness by investing responsibly and living according to your values. You'll find tips for using robo investors, insights for investing in socially responsible funds, and how to craft a personal budget that aligns your spending with what you hold most dear. Drawing on behavioural science, evidence-based investing, and environmental science, he shows you how to start framing success in a way that actually brings happiness, not stress, into your life--by balancing your money, connection, health, and purpose. Whether you're a broke teenager, a middle-aged millionaire or someone who hopes to retire on a shoestring, we all have one thing in common: we want to enjoy our lives. That means living better and laughing more. It means caring for the environment and helping our children to succeed--while defining "success" the way we really should. Review: Broad outlook for fans of Millionaire Expat - Really enjoyed Millionaire Expat and have already applied a lot of the principles, but the financial markets have rapidly shifted since itโs publication. Balance offers an updated and broader outlook to wealth and happiness, which helps to develop a more rounded approach to my financial future and letโs me see the bigger picture. The book not only focuses on savings and assets but also in to developing habits on cultivating a whole and happy future, which can get lost when purely number crunching. Review: Great book which I highly recommend - Andrew Hallam certainly knows his stuff when it comes to investing wisely and with his new book Balance is very easy to read in bite size chunks and teaching us that having money is great but other areas of your life also offer fulfilment and happiness when you stress less and re define what success means...Very good book.

Absolutely fantastic
I really enjoy a lot everything written by Andrew Hallam. His writing style is simply great and he provides a well balanced mix of Techincal/ motivational/ real life examples, that makes the reading an absolute pleasure. His books are life changing and push to a deep self assessment, in which the reader acknowledges all the info consolidated in these books. Simply great.

Another great one from Andrew Hallam
As usual a very simple language yet brilliant tips. My second book from Andrew Hallam, absolutely loving both. Wish this could have a bit more tips of balanced life, as it reminds me of Milionaire expat quite a lot, so focused on money aspects mainly. But nevertheless an amazing book.

Balance...with Balance.
What do you value more, stuff or life? The opening of Chapter One begins with a proverbial stomach punch, reminding readers afresh what matters most in life: Life = Quality Relationships + Lived Experiences. This is the "formula" for a life well lived! Andrew does a great job helping readers reflect and recalibrate their life choices as they look towards the future they want to create. This book is a combination of finance, family, and folk wisdom, wrapped in research. If you are caught up in the rat race reading this will give you pause to consider a new path to follow.

This is my new favourite book about money & investing (and I've read them all)
Up until reading Balance, my favourite book about money & investing was Andrew Hallam's prior book, Millionaire Expat. And as a personal finance specialist, I've pretty much read everything that's out there on the topic. Here are a few things that I really enjoyed and put this book way ahead of the rest: - Sound recommendations based on documented third-party research. Money & investing are very 'emotional' topics for all of us. But making decisions based on research helps us stir away from detrimental emotional reactions. - Andrew's stories and funny tone. This makes the book such an easy read and so very entertaining. Andrew's ability to convey knowledge and cite research in a way that's funny is probably the best part of the book. - The principles and tips insight the book are on point. I can't think of anything I disagree with as a personal finance specialist. In many ways, reading the book confirmed what I already knew. In other ways, I'm now making slight adjustments to what I teach in my program because the book gave me deeper insights on specific topics (e.g. how to go about bonds in the current low interest rate, high inflation environment) - Very important: Andrew Hallam has lived the expat life around the world and, together with Millionaire Expat, his prior book, Balance addresses money & investing from a multi-country perspective, rather than being US-centric or single-country focused. I can't think of any other book or even blog, youtube channel, etc. that offers such an international perspective on money and investing. Finally, I like that the book gives specific tips on how to grow a portfolio to prepare for retirement. But more importantly, I truly enjoyed reading about what makes us happy and how our personal finance can support that throughout our life.

Another fantastic resource from Andrew
Everyone should read this book. In Andrewโs informative, yet easy-to-read, style it gives great, practical advice on how you can be healthier, wealthier and happier by investing shrewdly: all backed up by data and research that is presented clearly. It teaches the best DIY investment strategies (as well as giving advice on who can help you with this) which will put YOUR money into YOUR pocket, and raises awareness of the pitfalls of alternatives which will drain the growth of your hard-earned cash.
