I am merely a long time music appreciator in my 50's, who loves every aspect of music writing and production. I write this out of respect and sincere love of the sound. Now that you have my context, and don't think I am a fake reviewer just out to boost sales... My opinion: This feel-good English band with an "American" sound (as many music critics have said) is all there, with a few heartfelt songs as well. Starting out as "The Baseball Boys", taken from inspiration by one of the roving park gangs in the 80's film The Warriors, what soon became known as "The Outfield" grew in popularity quickly in the US and abroad. If you love 80's music as I do, you will really enjoy adding this to your collection. Don't be concerned with trying to define or categorize the sound as "New Wave" (an often misused term that means little any more) or even as "Power Pop". Those terms mean little. Just listen and enjoy it. This is a great collection of best known hits from The Outfield. All the ones you would expect and hope for are there. Even some lesser known post-80's gems that will be great discoveries for you. The audio CD includes a small handful of photos of The Outfield that will auto display in a slideshow format when the CD is played through a gaming console (like XBox One) or through a PC. A nice touch. The only song that I feel is oddly missing is the 1986 ballad, "Everytime You Cry", (also from the "Play Deep" album) which may have been omitted for odd legal reasons of some sort or another, as is commonplace in the music industry in this era. This music still holds up well, even some 35 years after their wildly popular 1985 album "Play Deep" that seemed to come out of nowhere . The original "Play Deep" lineup was Tony Lewis (base and vocals), John Spinks (guitar and vocals), and Alan Jackman (drums). John Spinks sadly passed away in 2014 and Alan Jackman left the band after the 1989 album "Voices of Babylon" and later rejoined in 2011. After the death of John Spinks in 2014, The Outfield officially disbanded. Today, lead singer Tony Lewis is still making music and he has not lost a thing in terms of talent and vocal range. Even as the sole member of the group's few incarnations, you really can't hear a difference between then and Tony Lewis now---other than improved production levels that occur with innovations in audio production technology over time. His 2018 solo album release "Out of the Darkness" features song lyrics co-written with his wife (who inspired him to get back into his love of music after the death of long time friend and bandmate John Spinks succumbed to liver cancer, which made him put down his guitar). On this new album by Tony, he plays all the instruments and handles the album's production. In other words, you can keep your enjoyment of this same "Outfield sound" going with new music today through lead singer Tony Lewis. Back to the collection though. If you are looking for a great time capsule for music by The Outfield, this is really it. Enjoy! Update: Sadly, we recently lost Tony Lewis. All the more reason to get this collection.

LOVE THESE TWO FAVORITE SONGS OF MINE BUT THE AUDIO QUALITY NEEDS TO BE APPROVED !
I PURCHASED THIS CD REALLY JUST FOR MY ONLY TWO FAVORITE SONGS BY THEM WHICH ARE ''SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE'' AND ''YOUR LOVE'' AND THESE TWO SONGS THEM SELVES ARE GREAT BUT THE QUALITY OF THE AUDIO SOUND IS VERY LOW AND THERE INSTRUMENTS SOUNDS SHOULD STAND OUT MORE AND BE HERD MORE EASILY AND MORE POWER DRIVEN SO THEY STAND OUT MORE AND HIT HARDER BUT I LOVE THESE TWO SONGS BY THIS THREE MAN BAND ! P.S. CD CAME AS DESCRIBED BRAND NEW WITH NO FLAWS BUT THE FRONT CASE HAD TWO LONG CRACKS.

the best of the outfield
a great collectin of songs on this best of album. just one little monor mistake though. there wer no songs on it from the album (any time now) that album had a lot of great songs on it too.any true outfield fan would know that. but all in all it is worth buying. i still gave it a 5 star vote. come'on now its the outfield. they are a part of the soundtrack to my life. thank you (john tony alan).

If you love that 80's rock pop sound, you will love this greatest hits album. I had never heard of this group. I came across a track of theirs on You Tube, then looked up more videos, and came to Amazon to see of they had their CDs. I can't believe these buys are British! They sound so american rock. Rock pop at it's best in my opinion. The songs have depth, with a pop sound. I love it!
