Against My Will: Groomed, trapped and abused. This is my true story of survival.

Well, I found it really difficult to not long after I started. I though it was a story about a woman falling prey to a man taking advantage of her and keeping her a prisoner against her will. It turns out that was the case. But she went back to him time and again(and again). She suffers from Adpergers syndrom a form of autism, and is vulnerable. A fact that came out before she hit her teens. She spent years cliostering herself in her own home, not wanting to go any, no friends, no normal teenage social life no school either. She was homeschooled by a female teacher. Later she decided to take up ballet dancing with a female instructor. Now, she was taken advantage of by both the teacher and ballet dancer being mentally and physically abused. It was easy for her to fall prey to people like that because she was unable to say no and set boundaries. And this what I struggle with. After her Aspergers diagnosis and the abuse by adult females why was she allowed to "date" a 30 year old man aged 17? The blame lies squarely with the parents. Obviously the girl wasnt streetwise after spending years indoors refusing to go out. All of a sudden she decides to be part of society, latches on to some socialist party woman campaigner and thus meets the man who would blight her life for 2 years. The parents and social services were unable to intervene. I beg your pardon. It should have never come this far.In the end I lost my patience with it, it was more of the same all over again, quite explicit sometimes. I didnt even finish it. I put it on file, file 13. The bin.

I literally could not put this book down till it was finished. Sophie describes her terrible experiences at the hands of a monster who took terrible advantage of a vulnerable young girl. The story is very well written and her finally managing to triumph over adversity is a great relief at the end.We live in Aberdare and its shocking to think this happened in our little town.I would like to know more about the background of ST.

Oh this book is shocking. To think that this could and maybe still does go on. It's completely scary what can go on behind closed doors.
