Benjara 18" Teak Wood Ship Wheel with Brass Inset and Six Spokes, Brown and Gold

Well I just got mine in today and was very surprised that the wheel was in one piece and in GREAT condition! The pics are 2 seconds after opening the package. NO assembly required. Soooo I am a real tugboat captain of a 100 year old all wooden 70' boat and this wheel is very close to matching the wheel (1st pic) in the lower helm on my boat! I bought this to use on a smaller 22' tugboat I am building although it IS NOT designed to be used for a real boat. I will beef it up (and take it completely apart to do so) with metal rings and better glue as well as screws. I have years of experience as a machinist, woodworker, captain and have the ability to make it into what I want to use it for.Pros :1. Exactly 18" to outer edge of handles2. Fairly authentic3. Quality of milling on "spokes" are good4. Fairly decent quality of inner hub material (brass) and heavy duty outer wheel5. Price is good for a decoration pieceCons :1: Spokes do not fit securely in hub and are VERY loose2: Some of the bungs to cover screws are broken3: The varnish or finish they applied is horrible4: NOT ready to be used on a boat for steering or anything else to steer like description says!!!! You will have to modify it to work!Ok... that being said I am still happy so far with this wheel. It's not perfect and I knew that going in. For the money it is a nicely made ornamental piece. Other vendors have similar ones that have to be assembled. This one was well packaged and made it from India to California and who knows where.... to me on the other side of the USA with NO damage.Will I buy another... YES! It would cost more to build one from scratch than it does to buy this one!
